When trying to decide where to take a friend for her birthday lunch today, I remembered the fantastic liver and onions and knew where we were going today! We were not disappointed..... The food was even better than I remembered. The liver and onions were "for fainting", the mashed potatoes were real and delicious and the side veggies were fresh and crunchy. Today's soup (green pea) was better than my own, and I thought mine was great..This family restaurant is a hidden gem and deserves to be re-discovered. You will not be disappointed! I know I will certainly be back soon and my next adventure will be their ribs!
I hadn't been here in many years. We came with regulars, who are foodies. They said the kishka was the best in the region and they were right. Also first rate are the liver and the ribs. Very good service, as well.
This was my first visit to Steeles Deli. The restaurant opened in 1980 and apparently hasn't had a face lift in 35 years. Decor and ambiance are non-existent. But I was pleasantly surprised with the food.My dining partner had been here on many occasions throughout the years and suggested we come for early dinner. We arrived at about 5:00 to a mostly empty restaurant. Service was pleasant and fast. Our food arrived within ten minutes of ordering. My friend chose corned beef on rye @ $8.50, which came with a side of cole slaw and a pickle. Her sandwich was piled high with lean meat, and she said it was very good. I decided to take a chance on the baked Atlantic salmon with a teriyaki glaze @ $15.50. It was served with grilled veggies and choice of potato or rice, plus soup or salad. I chose mazzoball soup, which was excellent. The salmon was amazing, cooked to perfection, and the grilled veggies were delightful, with just the right smidge of seasoning.Steeles Deli is, of course, also a delicatessen. You can order meat by the pound to take home, and many varieties of pre-made salads and veggies. And bakery. I was very impressed with the food and the prices at this otherwise nondescript venue. I wouldn't hesitate to return for lunch or dinner.
I went to the restaurant on my break and ordered a large Greek salad with chicken. I get back to work to find out there was TUNA on my salad. As someone who always gets Greek salad it was a surprise to see FISH on my GREEK salad. Since I am allergic to fish, I had to give the store the call and let them know. After arguing with the lady on the phone I asked to speak to the manager and to my surprise she was the owner! Not only was this a waste of my time but also a waste of my money!
Prompt service but average quality of food served in average setting. Clean with minimum decor and appointments
