I visited this restaurant a few times during my stay in Torquay. The staff was very friendly, the coffee and cake were delicious, and it was always bustling with customers.
The restaurant only serves coffee and snacks, but the service is quick and the staff is very welcoming. I'm not too picky about coffee, but it was delicious.
They enjoy a beautiful coffee late in the afternoon as most other caffes closed earlier due to the COVID lock. the personal was fantastic. Unfortunately, I had to testify to a customer who verbally mistreated the personal and the owner (a baby kept) because he was too impatient to wait for other customers to leave the caffe. these caffes small businesses do a good work to keep during the lockdown and it is so sad to see customers who abuse anti covid and anti-social distancing personal small businesses for the right to do. this caffe has my support. will be back for big coffee.
Was waiting patiently to get into the store to order some coffees, COVID Restrictions Heard someone 's name called and let them go by... waited a little longer while that person not only picked up their coffee, but decided to browse and order some additional products...... with minutes passing. Finally he was done and I entered the store and the young lady staff member called another lucky persons name, she asked me to wait while the other person picked up their coffee. I huffed in disappointment, as I had been waiting some time, but went back outside.. only to be berated by the next person in the queue behind me. He pointed out that they had a one person in the shop policy and started to have a go at me. I tried to tell him that I understood the reason, but he wanted to make a point.... when I kept on talking trying to explain my case, he confessed to be the owner and that I should just get on with it. I did and went onto order my coffee, all the while he was still engaging me. I ordered and was going back outside and we kept on going, I tried to explain, him trying to prove a point. He finally walked in behind the counter and proceeded to cancel my order and tell the staff to give me back my money. He even tried to accuse me of being rude to the staff and I challenged him in front of them as this was just not true. I live local and was totally disappointed in this owner . I know times are tough and the only reason I am buying a coffee at 3pm in the afternoon is to support cafes like Larder. People that know me, understand this to be true. I made it a rule to eat out as much as possible through Covid, so as to support the local Torquay businesses. I hope that this is just a once off for this business .... but apparently my money is no longer good there and so will never be able to find out. Fortunately if you are coming to Torquay there are many good cafes.... in my eyes this use to be one of them, sad to say not anymore.
