When a resto's states the vintage is 2011 it should be that year that arrives at your table... Picky I know but a 2014 is not worth the same in 2015 ( and never will he) and is probably not drinkable... So check the year! Now the food.. Oeuf cocotte... Not the best... Seasoning was lack lustre and flavours bland... Heh ho... Mains to follow... Oh dear. As I am off potatoes I asked for a salad and vegetables... So the orange slice came as a surprise! Not sure why... Added nothing and took a lot away with it... So ... I was in early, only diner so chef can't have been busy...food lacked any passion... Art was nice though!
Staying at the nearby Best Western we had spent some time walking around the area on a drizzly June evening looking for somewhere to eat. In the end we chose R4, despite its unpromising location by the bus station and simple exterior, the menu appealed; it turned out to be a good choice. It was quite late when we arrived and the restaurant was about half full, with a nice quiet buzz from conversations. Service was friendly and helpful, including accommodating my request for a main course version of one of the starters. The roast vegetable salad was delicious, light but very tasty. My companion's magret de canard with a honey and rosemary sauce was also very good, but the star dish was pudding - a divine tarte tatin with salted caramel ice cream.
Just by the metro Jeanne D'Arc this friendly restaurant serves a good plant de jour and a la carte menu. Whilst there are more student friendly places on the Rue de Strasbourg this was great for a more than middle-aged couple. Prices around sixteen euros for the 3 course plant, seventeen euros for mains.
Simpe but nice atmosphear food home made with a high quality. Being from the North of France, I was positively surprised to eat real french fries! I can only recommend this address.
We were staying in the Ibis and needed someplace close and quick before closing. R4 filled the bill. The food was good, the service prompt. I had the dinner special which was a local fish, well prepared and with a good presentation.
