The problem is the taller lady with the glasses who just ignores the people waiting at the podium. We stood there for quite a while AFTER she walked up and said she would be right back. Finally about 10 minutes later the lady who would, fortunately, be our server came up and put our name on the list. It would not surprise me if you were to tell me that our server used to be a DI. The fish and chips were very good. The cheese steak was ok.
The environment was nice. We didn't eat there due to food allergens. All of their seafood and non-seafood items are all fried in the same fryer. Bummer.
Can't beat a bar in a museum. Loved having a beer in a replica of the orginal. Philly cheese steak sandwich was okay but nothing to brag about.
My 11 year old and I shared the smash burger and fries. It was fortunately enough for the two of us to share. I.50 was added to our bill when we chose fries. That’s not a big deal except it wasn’t clear to me that it was an up charge on the menu. The service was fast and attentive. The smash burger was good but not great (pretzel bun was not warm) and the fries had a little shape to them that made them distinctive in a good way. Plus they are served in big platters with big knives ? what else is there to say but #semperfi ?
I came here and had lunch with a coworker. The Tun Tavern is very quaint, and there might be a 20-minute wait, but it's well worth it. I had a smashburger, and my coworker had a reuben; everyone enjoyed their meal.I'm looking forward to going back to the National Museum of the Marine Corps and visiting the Tun Tavern to try some of their other offerings.
