This little border crossing has become one of me and my fathers favorite places to grab a bite and catch up. To start, when you walk in the place is spotless top to bottom, very clean and very comfortable not decorated like you're going to Mexico itself but more like you're having dinner at your a abuelo and abuela's casa. Don't be taken back by the decor though, it's family owned and operated by a husband and wife, he does the cooking and she does the talking. Her sweet demeanor is warm and inviting and even comical at times, they have a very extensive AUTHENTIC Mexican menu as well as some american selections such as wings and chicken tenders etc. I ordered a large coca cola (in a glass bottle) to start and then decided on the rest when she returned. To start we had the ceviche a la tostada, fresh fish marinated in citrus and spices mixed with fresh veggies and topped on a crunchy tostada. This is the best version of this dish I've had since I fell in love with it in Miami some years ago, I always order it at every place that serves it only to be disappointed every time..but not this time!!! The perfect blend of spices and citrus and fish and salt. Literally perfectly done. Next my father and I each had one of the Marinated Pork Sandwiches, and this is just a great combination of fresh veggies, beans, succulent tender and juicy pork and tangy sauce on a side note I asked for mine to be extra spicy so they added lots of fresh jalapeño and it was amazingggg, just make sure you don't where your sunday best because this sandwich gets messy. Luckily it's served with wax paper and they also have napkin dispensers on every table so you don't have to worry about waving anybody down for extra. Lastly we finished off with one of my favorite desserts of all time: Flan If you've never had it before it's like bread pudding without the bread..rich creamy custard with a touch of caramel. It's the perfect finish to this authentic flavorful Mexican gem and the icing on the cake in my book. Y I've been several times since and have yet to be able to try the ever so popular tamales since they almost always sell out at lunch time no matter how many they make. So if you're going specifically to try the tamales then all I can say is get there early!!
The food at this restaurant is delicious and the service is excellent. If you're craving authentic Mexican cuisine, be sure to give this place a try.
I came here today on a whim and it was very good. I will definitely return. It's much closer to home than driving to Aiken.
Unfortunately, Lucy has left and the owner/manager has chosen to shut down the restaurant. This is such sad news as I really enjoyed this place. They serve amazing seafood. The owners are from a coastal town in Mexico and it's just the husband and his wife running the place. The restaurant is small but clean and the portions are huge. The only downside is that they don't serve beer to go along with your meal. Be sure to try the Shrek burrito!
