De winkel is a hidden gem. The food can be considered really good and very tasty. There is a nice ambience and the service is cool and greay. We went here for the first night, but went back every day.

There was only one waiter/barman who worked there on a Friday night. He was rude to me and my friends, and after a while refused to serve us food just because he was too busy and overworked. Instead of trying to understand his situation we had, he was aggressive with us. Such a shame and I will never visit this bar again.

We just happened to be staying very close by to de Winkel and thought we would try it for dinner. We got a table outside. The server was very welcoming and his english was pretty good. The food menu is pretty basic, but great German...comfort food in schnitzel and flammkuchen. Prices are reasonable. My Mosel Riesling was OK. The food came reasonably quickly and the server was attentive throughout our time in the restaurant. Yes, there were a number of tables where the patrons were smoking, but we come to accept that is a cultural norm in Europe. Tolerate it while here. Overall, a good experience in Trier.

Looked forward to dining here after the review in your site. Entering the restaurant we were met with so much cigarette smoke that it burned my throat. I assume that the food is good but we left without ordering due to the stinky smoke.
