We like a good curry (we're from the UK so we're pretty much curry mad really!). We saw some of the reviews of Maharajas on TripAdvisor and they seemed to be either 1 star or 5 stars so this was intriguing, to say the least. But we thought we'd give it a go and we were pleasantly surprised.BYO was a welcome start...and we had some champers from duty free and the bottle was opened for a $3 corkage - a fair price. To start with we had the obligatory poppadoms (light a crispy with good tasty selection of chutneys etc) and the chicken tikka (lots of it and very tasty.)For mains, my wife had the Korma, which she enjoyed and I had the Vindaloo (very nice but I asked for hot but I thought it was more medium). Again excellent portions - plenty of rice and a good selection of nan breads. And all had good flavour.Service was excellent and friendly. We've been blessed to have some excellent curries in the past elsewhere in the world and this, in our opinion was on the good side and we were more than happy to pay the $80 bill - which we thought was excellent value. Some times in life you have to take a risk - we did and it paid off. Recommended for a decent Indian meal with fast friendly service. Thanks - we enjoyed the evening.
Very expensive very small portions with little meat for $18 takeaway Indian dinner, rice extra. Sauce was nice. Takeaway took well over an hour but they were not busy, hardly anyone there, while Thai next door was full. Others became impatient and walked out. Ceiling fans over the kitchen were caked with dirt and dust which makes me question the cleanliness of the place.
Ok not sure how to describe this. Ordered a takeaway which was accepted and waited in the restaurant area. For 90 minutes. That loooong 90 minutes gave me opportunity to observe what was going on in that open plan takeaway kitchen restaurant. My opening question is: are there food health & Safety laws in Australia? For a land famous for splitting open logs of wood and guzzling down big fat white grubs maybe food hygiene in restaurants is more than a second thought over here. The place was dirty. The food preparation and handling areas were dirty, unkempt, untidy and unsanitary. The person (the only person working) handled the incoming phone calls, payments and the cooking. At absolutely no point during the looooooong time I was there did the receptionist come chef wash his hands - not once. Handling money, credit cards and then raw food. So why did I stay and why did I accept the food.I'd spent all day fishing off the barrier reef and I was tired, sun weary, and just wanted a bite to eat before hitting the hay.I ordered Chicken Tikka main course - the chicken was cheap cuts and the meat was still in the preformed shape that it had been in a package frozen for weeks. One side of the cooked food was still the shape and indentation of the packaging as well as fatty and gristly. Gross. I left it.I ate the prawn vindaloo but the base was a sour dish not normally associated with a vindaloo and one of the prawns was mushy and fishy. I left the rest. I ordered a Nan bread which was made fresh on site. I watched as the chef took the bread from the clay oven, went to a metal shelf, cleared away what looked like keys, papers and didn't clear away what looked like old food and threw the fresh cooked bread there and sliced it before packaging it. Needless to say I didn't eat it at all and it too went in the bin immediately. I could go on. But take it from me this restaurant/takeaway in my opinion is unfit to serve food to the public and is potentially a health hazard. It needs cleaning and the full implementation of good food safety and hygiene as well as tasty recipes and the use of high quality ingredients. I think the local food standards safety teams should investigate this place and until then I would stay away.
I ate here at least 30 times over the 10 weeks I stayed at Trinity beach. The butter chicken and curries are amazing! I had four workers with me and we all agreed, this was the best place to eat in trinity beach. So we ate here as much as possible! The flavors in the dishes and sides are definitely authentic. I never was substituted for any rice or naan as previous reviews stated. The trading hours are inconsistent for sure and I ran into a shortage of saffron rice a couple times which is frustrating. I will definitely return when I'm back at the Beach.
