On the positive, the seafood was cooked well but on the negative, as soon as it arrived, dozens of flies were flying around the table. Some small flies actually landed in the food. It made the whole experience a nightmare. They used some form of smoking insect repellent on each table that did not seem to work at all but all we did is breathe it in from the other tables. Comments were made about the flies but I was told it was “outside” and expected but as it was a windy day there were less so on a calm day there would be more flying insects. Considering the price of the food and location, be prepared to be harassed by many forms of insects including mosquitoes while you are eating in the seated area near the hut where the food is prepared. There is no indoor eating area!
We had lunch there and it was superb. Arrived at 12 and they were just setting the chairs out. We ordered the calamari which was one of the best I have ever had. The batter had spices and herbs and the squid wasn’t over cooked. We then had the prawn curry and 500g lobster. They both came with rice, dhal and a tomato chutney. Both where fantastic and I would highly recommend. The staff were very friendly and spoke good English. They brought something to deter the flies and even offered to look after our one year old who wanted to run around. All in all one of the best meals I have had here!
Incredible food and roadside vibe. You feel like a part of the family coming around for dinner. The prawns were delicious!
I went there twice driven by the good reviews on Google Maps. On the first sight, it reminded me a little kind of a fish market that you can find around the world, where local people can eat good, but cheap, without whole this fancy entourage. But it was wrong, because this place is in fact pretty expensive as for the overall conditions (I paid respectively 1900 MUR and 2700 MUR for dinner for 2 persons). The food was fresh, however served in a puritan dirty style (without attraction for eyes, I mean). The taste was acceptable plus . You seat on plastic chairs and the smell of the kitchen surrounds you. Owners seem to be nice, but on the other hand you will not find there too much privacy as you sit just next to them and to the kitchen. For me the place would be fine, but the pricing in terms of this condition is somehow wrong. For 50% of the costs, it could be considered as fair. If you go to e.g. Grand Baie, you can find nice restaurants for that (or lower) price.
Exceptional! You won't find fresher, tastier seafood on the island. It is owned by the loveliest couple. Just a few plastic tables, friendly owners and delicious food: that is what makes this place so special. The homemade rum arrangé is also worth the trip!
