This little take-out place is literally a stone 's throw away from me and serves my family as a personal hot food counter whenever we are rushed, too tired to cook, or occasionally want a taste of the exotic. I would say I go here at least once monthly for a meal and I have tried almost every menu item. From what I can tell, it is a popular neighbourhood eatery as I frequently run into my neighbours there. I think the pizza here is quite good, and I am somewhat of a pizza aficionado. Sure it is not wood-fired or hand -tossed but for what I like to call the ubiquitous kebab-joint pizza (the most common type of restaurant in all of Norway . Toppings are good and generous and if you order one with the sauces i.e. eating it Norwegian style, Smile actually ranks near the top of this category, perhaps 3rd out of 10. Much more often however we enjoy eating the various Middle Eastern dishes. The rolled kebab is a perfect meal. Like a giant burrito filled with spiced kebab meat and fresh vegetables, it is a handy meal on the go or to eat in front of the tv. Hearty, no mess, quick, and inexpensive. I can also recommend the falafel, although by my standards the seasoning is rather mild. And finally, there are good deluxe burgers and nadder plates (seasoned strips of chicken or beef served with salad, fries and bearnaise sauce. To me, the service is always consistently quick and amiable. I often call ahead to reduce the waiting time which is always 10 minutes no matter what or when you order. Lastly, the prices are fairly reasonable and in fact slightly less than other restaurants in this chain. I feel it is good value for what you get. It is a no-brainer if you are staying at the Hostel (1 block away .
Not many customers when we visited, but it was late lunchtime, so that could be the reason. We had the regular cheeseburger, and that was a good choice. The staff was friendly and helpful and the place was quiet.
I ordered a pizza to take away from this place and it was honestly one of the worst pizza I have ever eaten in my life. It was supposed to be a pizza with gorgonzola but I could barely taste it. The dough was bad, the ingredients were bad, the preparation was bad, the people were not even nice. Better buy a frozen pizza.
We order kebab or pizza from here, frequently, and I never get disappointed! It is great to have a place you know will always deliver when you crave something unhealthy! ;
