I just had a shopping experience at AJ's. I would give it 3 stars for the typical unfriendly and sour attitude of the cashiers. It's disappointing that they couldn't muster up some sort of pleasantness. I didn't realize how expensive micro greens were until a small package rang up at $8.99. I asked for them to be taken off and that request did not go over well with the cashier. They seemed annoyed and had to get the manager to override it. I don't understand why the cashiers, especially the majority of them, seem to have a negative attitude. I have been a loyal customer of the store for over 20 years, but I also shop at less expensive grocery stores. Has Covid killed customer service and the care for customers? Shouldn't they be happy that people are shopping in their store? This experience left me feeling uncomfortable and awkward.
I have been to AJ's fine foods in the past, but I had never tried their bakery, bistro, or grill until now, and I wish I had done so sooner! This week, we tried the BBQ chicken sandwich from the bistro, pepperoni and pesto Margherita pizza, and a few danishes. Everything was delicious! I didn't even know they served pizza here, let alone by the slice. I also heard they have a $5 sushi day. The coffee lemonade was also fantastic. It's a great spot for quick bites or grab-and-go lunches, but it can get busy, so you might have to wait. The staff was all very friendly. Pauline G helped us today and offered recommendations and answered all of our questions.
I have tried to order sushi for pick up 3 weeks in a row. Every time it's the same condescending, rude person on the phone. This time they ran out of rice at 5:45, at a grocery store. Probably should find a different person to respond to phone calls. His reaction heightened my reaction.
I've been shopping at this store since 2004, it's a nice relaxed and well laid out place to go grocery shopping at especially if you're looking for unique food and craft items. The staff is friendly and the store kept clean especially compared to Walmart! They have a nice sushi bar and a bakery that makes it almost impossible to avoid deserts. This is a smaller version of my favorite grocery store (Wegmans) that I miss from living on the East Coast! It's a little pricey to shop here compared to Walmart, Fry's and etc but at least you don't feel worn out and abused after spending time at AJ's
