Having had Mr Hizolas a few weeks prior (which is a good example of well executed Cantonese food), I’ve been meaning to give Tugun Village Asian a go for a few years. Why I didn’t do it sooner, I’ll never know. I ordered a classic combo which is a gauge for a good kitchen/chef honey chicken and special fried rice. Kitchen had great aromatics when I went to pick up my takeaway. Special fried rice was presented with slices of Chinese style roast pork fillet spices and seasonings were spot on for the pork. This actually really blew me away as to how balanced the flavour was. Experience shows here. Honey chicken was easily as good as, possibly better than Mr Hizolas and for a fraction of the price. Garnished with sesame and fried egg noodle. Not at all sickly sweet or oily like most other offerings out there. Light and very appealing smokiness from a well seasoned wok in both dishes. If you feel like good, honest Chinese/Cantonese food without the Burleigh tax absolutely give this a go. Only bummer is the single use plastic!
6 yrs ago I came across this amazing food. Always delicious, containers full of freshly made ingredients that you hear sizzling away in the kitchen that you can also see. When I am forced to eat Chinese elsewhere it never comes close to the authenticity of this place. Friendly family operated, best kept secret on the Gold Coast. Helen D
Purchased a honey chicken And Fried rice. I had to ask how much twice because I was very surprised at the price. It’s very reasonable . No where on the Gold Coast can you get a rice for $7.50 . It was slight greasy but who can complain with a price like that. The honey chicken was so fresh and sweet and tasty. Very nice. The people were friendly and I had to give five star as the time it took was even exactly what they stated.
The Tugun Village is truly a local gem. The price is very reasonable, the staff are super friendly and welcoming. The quality and proportion sizes are amazing too. From experience, I would highly recommend the Mi Goreng cooked by chef Sam. Other recommended foods would be the Singapore noodles or the Honey Chicken.
Really nice food at good prices. Great locally owned family run restaurant. Try it, you will come back
