Sue the bar attendant was exceptional. Friendly from the moment we walked in, so how could we not stay and eat. She was very informative and provided good feedback on the local wines the pub stocked. Our meals were good, the wines great and the experience fabulous. Thanks Sue.
Went for lunch on 29/12 and I ordered chilli con carne as nearly everything else on the lunch menu was not available. When it came out it looked like a dogs meal. It tasted awful and who puts mash potatoes with this meal. I couldn’t eat it and told the person collecting the plates but I only got “sorry”. Tried to go for dinner on 3/1 and the restaurant was closed as they had run out of food. ???? Seriously what pub runs out of food. Highly disappointed as this pub used to have great meals.
Service was friendly, but meals took an hour to arrive. Scotch fillet was ordered medium but it was well done and tough, and some of the veggies were watery and cold. We mentioned the steak being overdone to the waitress, she was going to tell the kitchen, but we heard nothing back. Disappointing.
Well, what can we say about the Bistro … okay, the food was so good we ate dinner here for three of our five-night stay. QR and vaccination checks were fast and we were soon seated at our reserved table. We requested a bottle of local wines and on the first night selected a Johansen Pinot Noir and on subsequent nights we settled on an ‘On the Fly Syrah Nouveau’ which was lovely. On our first night we selected Pasta marinara and Chicken Kiev and both were delicious although, as with all country pubs, on the large size. We realised that they also offered a Thai selection (this doesn’t seem to appear on their website menu) and so returned the next night and shared a plate of fishcakes and then I had Seafood Pad Thai and my husband selected Beef massaman. Again, both dishes were ‘just right’ and our first Thai meal out for many months Taking a break away for two nights, we returned for our last night and this time the Bistro was fully booked plus a 21st birthday party in the upstairs dining room. The queue to order was constant but we were pleasantly surprised that our meals didn’t take too long to arrive. Again, the shared fishcakes and Seafood Pad Thai for me and Chicken with Hokkien noodles for my husband. Just the perfect meal to end our perfect stay in Tumbarumba Highly recommended and it is necessary to make a booking as they are very popular, with good reason!
