Went to playa blanca on a wim, and was happy to find this restaurator there. huge menu, but I am hanging on the classic Colombian fried whole fish, plantains and cocos rice. it was so good. the service was slow and sometimes had to ask for...things, but eating was great and it is right on the beach.
My friend and I planned a trip to playa blanca and were warned that the place can be crowded. we reserved a private driver through our hotel so we could not catch a boat to and from and could so much or so little. time we wanted. our driver brought us to playa surf as he said it was the only place on the beach that was controlled by the owner and we could watch the world championship. there are beautiful music, friendly people with a waiter they warn, as they always ask for the price for each seller. different from what I had read, it wasn't so bad when you looked after the salesmen, maybe since my friend and I spoke Spanish, we weren't so disturbed. the food was great, all in all a great experience, and don't worry about cash, take them credit card and let them settle before they go.
After reading review I quickly learned the best way to visit playa blanca was with a transport only ticket and straight to Playa surf at the right end of the beach. beautiful music, friendly people with a waiter warn them how to always ask...for the price for all salesmen. different than I had read, it wasn't that bad when you looked after the salesmen, maybe since I spoke Spanish, it didn't bother me much? that was great. everything in all a great experience. maybe a bit expensive (50k for 2 beds and sunshade and approx. 60k for a first-class fish meal) but for the first tropical beach experience of my wife, you can never forget.
We asked a taxi driver to take us to the beach and he recommended this spot. we got there and he called a friend to let them know we would need someone to walk us down from the parking lot. they sent a kind, young...man named kevin who was very polite. he took us over to the playa surf area and introduced us to the young man that would be attending to us personally because of our driver's request, which was nice. we walked down the beach and noticed that Playa Surf was the nicest location of all of the sitting/eating areas on the beach. it was also much less crowded and located on a spot that didn't have much weeds at all. the other areas had so much that it made their areas look messy, but it's just seaweed. we rented chairs, but they do not provide towels. the food was great. they made sure not to allow vendors into the eating area, but there were a few where our chairs were. the vendors selling items wouldn't come back after we politely declined them, but the ladies that offer massages were very persistent and it was a slight put off. we understand that is how they make their living, but it didn't appear to be a very sanitary service to us because there was no running water for them to wash their hands after massaging others on the beach. it got to the point where one of them started a massage on my husband after he politely said no and it frustrated him, but he was still kind. their persistence is the only reason we did not make this a 5 star rating. the water was beautiful, but be mindful that there are rocks about 15ft in that will catch you off guard. a tab was started for us and we had the option to pay however we wanted. the overall total at the end, with tip, was very cheap. a great value. we would definitely go back.
