The vendor took a piece of fresh white fish, coated it in a crispy batter, and placed it on a corn tortilla. I topped it with white sauce, cabbage, cilantro, lime, and a touch of hot sauce. It was the best fish taco I ever had. Fifteen years later, I tried a similar fish taco at Los Cotijas in Tustin. The tacos were larger and more authentic than Rubio's, and one taco was enough for two people. My only complaint was that they used lemon instead of lime for garnish. Overall, if you're looking for a great fish taco, Los Cotijas is the place to go.
The food at this restaurant was incredibly tasty. The tostada was especially delicious. I also tried a wet burrito that came with mole sauce, which was a bit sweeter than I prefer since I'm not a big fan of mole. However, my daughter-in-law tried it and agreed that it was authentic. It's hard to find that kind of quality, but I will definitely be coming back. I can't wait to try the fish tacos next time.
I don't understand why people are complaining about the cash-only policy. Who cares? This restaurant has the best fish tacos ever. The homemade red salsa is also amazing. The customer service is great too - we were $95 short on our order and the man taking our order pulled out $1 and told us not to worry about it. This place is always the best for fish tacos, but we need to try the rest of their menu as well.
Good fish tacos. My first fish taco was on a dirty street a block away from the beach in Rosarito, Mexico. The street vendor grabbed a piece of fresh white fish from a 5 gallon bucket, dipped it in batter, deep fried it, and slapped into a white corn tortilla. I then dressed it with the 'white sauce ', cabbage, cilantro, and tons of lime, with a touch of hot sauce. This was the best fish taco I ever had.......15 years later...I had the closest thing to that original fish taco at Los Cotijas in Tustin. The tacos are much bigger and more authentic than Rubios. You can get full on two instead of four. My only complaint is that they garnish the tacos with lemon instead of lime. I prefer lime with my mexican food.If you are looking for a good fish taco, go to Los Cotijas.
Epic. Fast, friendly, well priced and the crispy batter on the fish taco was supreme!!
