The deli produces delicious sandwiches, my choice, the Reuben. The freezer is stocked with a variety of cool drinks. There's a Lithuanian type of ice cream bar that's wonderful. There are also finely decorated Easter eggs next to the choice of baked goods.
Milda?s makes good sandwiches and hoagies! They have this Lithuanian thing going on inside with a Lithuanian map on the Wall and cookies from the Old country. While I was waiting for my turkey sub (YUMMY) this 6?4 Lithuanian Lady cut the line, well I was the only one in line, and order a Reuben. This Hippie looking Cat she called Jerry Rubin came out of the freezer and left with her! I then saw this lady reading the Lithuanian news paper. Something was up as there were 2 big dudes with dark sun glasses and ear pieces eyeing me! Come to find out the lady was Dalia Grybauskaite President of Lithuania having some Lithuanian cookies and drinking groseunie which is like a Lithuanian Red Bull. Go figure all this going on in Union Pier. They have the NYT and the New Buffalo gazette. The New Buffalo Gazette was less depressing so I read it.
I?ve driven by this place a million times and only stopped in for the first time today due to a recommendation from a friend. What a gem! Their sandwiches are super delicious and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The place has a cozy hometown feel that was extremely refreshing also. They don?t know it yet but they just made a new customer for life! ??????????? We need more places like this.
I will say, the sandwiches were delicious that we ordered, however, the service and experience were concerning. 5 star food, 1 star service. We came on Sunday, so it was in the heat of Memorial Day Weekend. The woman at the front was extremely rude and visibly flustered. She kept saying how the deli workers needed a break and it had been constant since 6 AM. We had come in at 1:30 PM. Totally understandable, but it seemed as though she was annoyed every time a person came in and wanted to order. She was very short and condescending. At one point, the phone was ringing and she told a customer she was going to stop answering the phone. It just seemed a little odd. I totally get it was probably pretty busy, but being in a tourist town and on a great, high-traffic corner, it just seemed as though she was going to be putting off a lot of returning business that could be returning throughout the summer. I also thought the store was a little dirty. I did notice that none of the deli workers were wearing gloves and handling all the food bare handed. Again, the food was great, but I think some better customer service and sanitary measures would go a long way.
Nice selections and decent food. Staff is pretty rude every time I?ve been in and seem annoyed that customers are there. I tried purchasing some salami there last Christmas to give as small gifts to clients. The sell by date on them was 10/31/21. I didn?t buy them but didn?t really think of it as a big deal . I went back last week at the end of May 2022 and the salami was all there still, but the sell by date says 10/31 with the year scratched out. I found one package of salami that still had 10/31/21 on it where the 21 was faint and not scratched out all the way. Pretty tacky. What else do they do this on?
