The lighting at the tables was so dim that diners had to use their phone torches. My fish was dry and lacking flavor, and some of the chips were undercooked and hard. My guests mentioned that their burgers were “just okay.” While the 50% discount made it affordable, I won't be returning. It's a shame, as the pub itself is a beautiful Victorian establishment, but it seems to be declining.
We had a lovely lunch. The service provided by the two managers was top-notch. Even though it was lunchtime and the pub was relatively quiet for a Saturday, it didn't dampen our enjoyment. We ordered drinks and a main dish. My only criticism of the food was that the cooked green peas were not great, but aside from that, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, which was a good value for the money. I would definitely come back, particularly for the excellent service.
The menu that was advertised was not available, which was disappointing.
Eating was bad! the fish and chips were soggy and quite small, the part of the pommes was small and the muddy heaps: 2 teaspoons worth muddy heaps! the child tomato paste was shocking: dry, no cheese and cold, not sure if I had given it to a dog if I had one. eating was not cheap either. no care pubs and restaurants close: if they serve like these people, simply not back, I will certainly not!
I enjoyed this place very much, though it's basically a bar/pub. What they served was delicious, but I would prefer a wider selection.
