Since 2020 we had tried to get to Alaska and were finally in 2022. We stayed in 2010 at the roadhouse with our sons and stayed in the small cabin from the back door. It was so much fun! You still talk about it as the best stay in the trip! This year we went with another couple and booked the entire suite upstairs. It differs from the last time in the fact that rooms and bathrooms are still circulating due to the Covid 19. We loved our stay. The beds were comfortable, and the rooms like going to Grandmas house! We even liked to see a movie on VHS as he poured rain while we were in Talkeetna. The restaurant, as we knew, is no longer. You can only eat overnight in the breakfast room. That was okay with us, except we forgot to order our breakfast before the time. We were all right and went to the front bakery window to get some Frosty Cinnamon reels (so yummy) and some molasses cookies for the street. Trisha, the owner, is a wonderful person and I recommend the roadhouse for an authentic Alaska experience. Even in the rainfall we had a great time!
I heard so many good things about this place that we were looking forward to eating here. When we arrived, the sign indicated that they are only serving to their hotel guests and a few lucky people who timed the outside window just right. Like...every other place in the USA, they can't find enough help.
We had fresh baked fresh baked cookies and cinnamon rolls. They were so good. I thought prices were comparable to what we are used to paying. If you go, make sure you don't wait too long. She bakes daily and sells until everything is gone,...which was before 2 pm on one of the days we were there.
