Unfortunately, the staff took our food order without asking for our drink choices, and we had to remind them to take our drink order as well. They seemed confused when we asked about the difference between bitter and lager, and were not knowledgeable about the available options. It took an excessive amount of time for a single pint to arrive at our table, and it was clear that it had not been ordered promptly. Additionally, during the meal, a staff member accidentally dropped a plate of spaghetti behind another customer, without offering an apology or cleaning up the mess. In the end, the affected table had to ask someone else to assist with clearing it up, and the staff member involved did not seem apologetic about the incident. It makes one question whether the staff receive proper training, and if the restaurant management even cares. While the food is acceptable, options such as The Lion and Lamb in Clanfield, The Saracens Head in Dunmow, or The Three Willows in Birchanger may offer better service and dining experiences. If you only want a beer, it may be best to get it yourself from the bar. However, for those seeking good food and service, it may be wise to consider other dining options.
We went for lunch based on recommendations from a gluten-free page. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. While there is a decent gluten-free menu available, the pizza I ordered resembled a barely cooked frozen one. The pub garden area was nice, but the food was not up to par.
We had a wonderful Sunday dinner at this restaurant, starting with delicious appetizers like Thai spiced crabcakes. The atmosphere was welcoming and the staff, including Glen at the bar and managers Lara, were excellent. Lara's sense of humor made our experience even more enjoyable. Thank you for a fantastic evening, we will definitely be back!
Have actually just got back in from a meal there. Truly nothing special. The beer garden was littered, the staff though friendly) were run off their feet so tables weren't being cleared and flies were gathering. Our table was sticky and they delayed taking our order. I imagine because they were busy. So I had the fish curry and it was ok, though the rice was very watery. Partner has pizza and he said it was fine. I had more an issue over the cleaniness rather than the food to be honest. But I definitely won't be rushing back.
With restaurants in Dunmow either closed or extremely poor I finally visited the Angel and Harp last night. It wax refreshing to find somewhere where the food and staff were really good The 4 of us all had different things and all were excellent The skate was top class The burger with a cheesy dip was good The steak burger was also well received. Pate was tasty and the chicken satay were well presented and good. 2 bottles of Cotes de Provence and a couple of beers. A bill was £120 with service left to our discretion we gave them £20!! Earlier on we visited a pub restaurant on the high st but all the wines we asked for were out of stock!! No Cotes rose no Gavi and another wine we selected was also missing!! Not sure how these places are run!! I know it’s not easy out there with staff and cost issues but if you are going to be open, just print a wine list on your printer. Limit it but ensure you have the tolls to trade. No such issues with the Angel and Harp. It had a great atmosphere and if you are looking for a bite to eat that isn’t silly money look no further!
