We ordered the seafood platter to share. The shrimp were excellent, but the calamari was quite small, and the salmon was reminiscent of Costco’s — but significantly more expensive. Next time, we’ll stick to the food trucks nearby.
I ordered the Fat Mermaid burger, but I received regular bacon instead of Canadian bacon, which was disappointing. Overall, the burger felt too greasy for its $24 price tag. On a positive note, the lettuce was fresh, which I appreciated. However, I couldn’t even taste the pepperoni, and it seemed like the burger itself was over-seasoned for my liking. On the bright side, our server Jamal was fantastic and very attentive.
The salmon and the vegetables were expertly cooked and tasted amazing. The view of the harbor was fantastic!
This is an amazing restaurant on the banks of Valdez. The food tastes great. The frits are absolutely crispy. The cheese steak is one of the best I ever had. The fish sand that was also very good. And although it wasn't a Thai place, the yellow curry was on site. I would recommend this place to anyone who goes to Valdez, AK. It's a bit on the expensive side, but you can always try.
We chose Fat Mermaid as it was rated well and one of the only spots open after a long day on the road. The menu offers many options, but our food wasn?t great. We tried a pizza and French dip. The pizza was bland and the French dip and fries were very salty. Our server, Kadir, capped the night with a disrespect comment before brining our check. My wife got sick within minutes of leaving the restaurant, so we won?t be returning or recommending.
