A lovely friendly café on the sledging slope at La Poya, next to La Buet station. Grab a coffee or hot chocolate, admire the views and watch your children sledging the gentle slope. A plus, the café has a free pnematique sledge ride for all customers.....Another plus for skiers you can ski back to Vallorcine to test your skills.
Visited this place 3 days over a 10 day period, for lunch and afternoon coffee each day whilst with ski school. Owner was preoccupied with us all sitting together and all ordering at the same time, refusing to take orders when convenient for the customer, even when the rest of the cafe was literally empty. She got extremely upset by our presence rather than welcoming 10 new customers. By day 3, I decided to bring a packed lunch and sit in the car park rather than ensure her grumpiness again.
Moontine is a delightful place to stop for lunch or a snack. It is an alpine chalet in a wildflower-filled meadow next to the Mont Blanc train station at Le Buet near Vallorcine. The owners are charming and the food is delicious and freshly home-made. There are tables inside for colder days but the tables outside face the grandeur of the beautiful Aiguilles Rouges and surrounding forests. By the cafe is an enclosure of friendly goats and a wooden hand built treehouse for children. And in winter there is tobogonning sledge with the use of sleds free of charge if eating in the cafe. The menu is small but varied with something to suit most tastes. The fondue is wonderful made from an old local recipe. But leave room for the best myrtille (bilberry) pie in the valley made to a recipe with almonds and deep in juicy local bilberries.
Great owner! Too bad that the lack of staff did not allow him to serve us at noon. But she was happy to recommend the right addresses around the corner
