Totos' African Cuisine - Van Nuys

This was my first experience with this restaurant, and to be honest, it's a mixed bag. I really enjoyed about half of the dishes we tried. However, if you're not a fan of spicy food, you might want to skip it. That said, I still recommend giving it a try for yourself.

I have to share my thoughts on this restaurant because I was genuinely shocked by my experience. Honestly, it's hard to trust a place where the staff openly call their customers stupid. I don't usually post reviews, but this was too much. There’s a clear reason why this restaurant is often empty. As many others have noted, the woman who works here is quite unfriendly, and I always feel uncomfortable when I visit. I grew up in a Nigerian community and know how to order food well; I always stick to my usual: meat with red stew and rice. But every time, she gets caught up in semantics, insisting on calling it "red stew and meat," which is just puzzling. The prices here are also extraordinarily high. How can you justify charging around $30 for three pieces of meat with stew and rice? And if I want extra meat, it’s an additional $3.50 per piece! It feels like a scam, especially when I could get a generous amount of meat for the same price at the market. I do appreciate the food, but at this point, it’s not worth the hassle. Now, I find myself driving 40 minutes elsewhere, hoping to find better customer service. It’s disappointing, really.

Wow. I'm heading to California today and was looking for an African restaurant to try. Thank goodness for Google reviews! I won’t be spending my money here. The way you treat your customers is extremely rude. I encourage everyone to read through the comments. Don’t waste your time and money on a place with such a negative attitude! Good luck with your business, but I have a feeling you may not be around for long.

This place is so good! The owners were incredibly friendly and accommodating. I have the Fufu and Eiusi soup with friend Plantains. Everything was delicious. they were really fast. My food was done very fast. 10/10. Idk, what the reviews are talking about, must be grievous people who recreate or just a free day. This place is great

I?ve admittedly never eaten here but I?ve been reading the reviews for this place and will never eat here. I understand that places can get bad reviews from time to time from people who are unfriendly. However, I can tell by the way the owner of totos? responds that the customer service is lacking at best. Talking to customers in a rude manner is a sure-fire way to lose business, and if you want your restaurant to do better I would work on that first. Much love <3
