We split a large salad, my wife had the salmon and I had a pizza. The kitchen is the same as Minerva's. The menu is small and the food was good. They had 30% off bottles of wine for Sunday nights.
The chef is French. The name doesn't reflect the French influence which is too bad because the food and service are outstanding. My husband had a seafood gumbo appetizer which had gorgeous mussels, prawns and other shellfish in a delicious broth. I had a salad with greens, beets and goat cheese. We both loved our choices. He had the trout and even ate some of the crispy skin. I had the chicken breast. We both had beautiful vegetables with green beans, carrots and spinach. The wine list was terrific, although we chose not to have any because we were going to a movie afterward, and wanted to be wide awake for our long drive to get to the theater. Definitely recommend 41 West, and plan to make it a mainstay for our restaurant dining.
I use to go here every weekend for dinner and loved it but now it is new owners and I don't go anymore. I went once with my girlfriend for lunch and the service and food was awful. We ate on wired tables, no tablecloths, and service was terrible. It is too bad but they are lucky that the chef stayed. He is amazing but until we get a new owner I will nor be going back. Went for Sunday brunch and they were out of so many items and the food was not good.
I recently went for brunch at 41 West and it was very nice. My friend and I shared the pâté and we each ordered the smoked salmon benedict. I requested my poached eggs SOFT but they were cooked medium. It tasted very good anyway. The patio was lovely, and there was live music across the street for the Kerrisdale festival that was going on.
We have dined here often in the evening and while a limited menu we find the food has been consistently of a high quality. Love the anise flavoured short ribs and the halibut especially. Prices for the food are fair although we find the wine list expensive. However you can take your own bottle with a $20 corkage. Small inside, best make a reservation. Service has been excellent.
