Blue Sky Japanese Restaurant

The staff here is kind and easy going. The bento box I ordered came quickly and the sushi tasted great. The price wasn't expensive.

Neighbourhood sushi restaurant, easy walk from where we live. Inexpensive sushi, not the best in town but good. Bento box is good. Quick service. Lots of take-out customers.

I've had sushi here several times, and it's not generally worth writing home about. This last particular time it seemed "off." It's fine for a quick bite, but the sushi tends to be very fishy smelling. It's not that pleasant. I think i'll pass from now on.

Last week I was in the area 4th / Burrard Street. I had appetite for a real nice steak. Unfortunately, in a stretch of several blocks I was not able to find any restaurant that offered that. In my “desperation” I went to “Blue Sky”, a Japanese Restaurant on 1st Street. The outside of that bistro was not appealing – poorly maintained. But inside it was really nice; I liked the atmosphere and sitting there. Since I wanted something grilled I ordered BBQ Squid and, my standard, Gyoza. It took a while until I got my meal served. Despite it appeared to come directly from the frying plate, the Gyoza was not hot. Also the BBQ Squid was almost cold. But the taste was good. I particularly liked the taste of roasted sesame in combination with the taste of the squid. I believe, like the outside of the restaurant, also the quality of the food has much room for improvements.

This is a great place to grab some good sushi and enjoy some nice patio time. The food was very good and the location was nice as well. Service was good. I would definitely return.
