I had their Grilled Lemongrass Chicken, Deep Fried Spring Roll on Rice Vermicelli and Vietnamese Coffee. I really enjoyed the food. The prices were a bit on the higher end, but not unreasonable. This is a spot that's definitely worth a visit.<br/ <br/ Grilled Lemongrass Chicken, Deep Fried Spring Roll on Rice Vermicelli $12.25):<br/ 3.5/5<br/ I really enjoyed the spring roll, which was very crispy and had a nice savoury filling. The chicken was quite tender and juicy, although I would have liked it to be a bit more charred, and it was a tad underseasoned. The pickled vegetables were quite nice, but <br/ <br/ Vietnamese Coffee, Cold $5):<br/ 4/5<br/ This consisted of drip coffee in a filter that's over a cup containing a layer of condensed milk. You wait for the coffee to slowly flow into the cup and mix it with the milk. I wanted the coffee to be cold, so it came with a glass of ice. The coffee was quite strong and had a perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness with the condensed milk.<br/ <br/ Summary:<br/ Food: 4/5<br/ Price: 3.5/5<br/ Service: 3/5<br/ Overall: 3.5/5<br/ Recommendations: Grilled Lemongrass Chicken, Deep Fried Spring Roll on Rice Vermicelli, Vietnamese Coffee
Bon Cafe is along Main street on 33rd ave. We pass by this shop all the time whenever heading down to Pho Tan to get our Pho fix. We decided to try something else for a change so we can blog about it. The shop is rather small and appears to be run by a husband and wife team. The decor is not too spectacular and could use an update here and there.
I visit this restaurant often for lunch because they are typically fast with their service. The Bon's special sub is fantastic, with a great balance of meat and pickled vegetables. The bread is not too tough like other bahn mi places. The spring roll that comes with the special combo is a bit small, but when I order the lemongrass chicken with vermicelli, the spring roll is much larger.
Came here for lunch for the first time. Had a bowl of pho with beef balls and rare beef and it did not disappoint. The servings were generous and the prices were decent. I think the soup was done just right. I'm not a fan of salty soup in my pho and this one was pretty spot on. Someone at another table ordered a broken rice dish and it looked amazing. Will definitely have to go back to try that.
Hidden Gem. I regret not trying Bon Cafe sooner. A true hidden gem, the food is fantastic. I make sure to order the lemongrass chicken at least once a week.
