This is a fantastic Japanese restaurant that offers a range of delicious dishes. While sushi isn't the main attraction here, you'll find hearty options like Japanese curry, tonkatsu, and beef belly sandwiches that are truly satisfying. The portion sizes are generous, and the presentation is quite appealing. The interior is cozy, featuring a brick wall and wooden furnishings that create a warm atmosphere. The service is friendly, contributing to an enjoyable evening overall! The table-side Omi-rice was a delightful experience, but my absolute favorite was the mackerel. The only downside is that it closes early at 9 PM, but fortunately, the brewery district is nearby!
Had some time to myself and wanted a spot in Vancouver to reflect and gather my thoughts for the day and hopefully have a good meal. Did a bit of online research and found Dosanko. It had me at Beef Belly Katsu. Upon further review, I found that theowners have a connection to Edmonton which resonates with me. So it was a for sure go to check this spot out. It is a bit out ofthe way but in my opinion worth it. It checked off all the boxes the sandwich was delicious and while the cost may seem pricey I found the quality of the meat and the quantity left me full (I did not eat anything until lunch). So no issues with the costat all imo. The service and staff was very polite and made me feel I was in Japan. The restaurant, at least on the day I wasthere, allowed me time to escape the day to day and simply enjoy my food, tea, and thoughts. Not sure when I will be back but itwill be in my thoughts for sure!
I visited this restaurant with a friend who was in town, and it was absolutely fantastic. We tried the beef belly sandwich, omu rice, and mushroom pasta. The sandwich was exceptional—full of flavor and a delightful experience with a wonderful mix of tastes. The omu rice also had a fantastic combination of flavors; the egg had a rich, creamy aftertaste that was simply delicious. The mushroom pasta exceeded my expectations; it was well-balanced and not overly rich, with perfectly fresh noodles. The orange wine pairing complemented the meal beautifully.
Dosanko offered a pleasant, calming, and cozy atmosphere for a girls’ lunch this past Friday. We started with the Beef Belly Sando (5/5), which featured a hint of mustard that perfectly balanced the richness of the meat. Next, we tried the Omu-Rice with Hayashi Sauce (4.5/5); our server expertly sliced the egg and drizzled the sauce on top. I was pleasantly surprised to find hidden vegetables mixed in with the rice. Although the sauce was a bit saltier than I prefer, overall, this dish was an enjoyable experience that I would recommend. Our server also provided small sharing dishes for us. We were too full for dessert, but that just means we’ll have to come back soon. A big thank you to the servers and the chef for checking in on us during our meal!
