Gold Penny Restaurant - Vancouver

This is an old style Chinese Restaurant .. The specials are on the walls.. (they never seem to change) .. Good for families or large groups (to share the dishes) ... The BBQ Pork Fried Rice is good.

THIS IS THE WORST PLACE EVER!!!! DONT EVER GO HERE!!!!!! I ordered food delivery and they forgot to deliver my soup and wonton. I called them to let them know but the driver did not want to make the trip back even though THEY ARE THE ONES WHO MADE THE MISTAKE!!!! I waited 45 minutes, I heard nothing, and my soup did not come. I contacted Just Eats since thats who I ordered from seeing as I had no luck. Apparently they told Just Eats that I was trying to get a refund out of them when all I wanted was the rest of my order. They REFUSED to even refund me the $5.50 for something I DIDNT EVEN GET!!!! When I called them to let them know how terrible their customer service was they HUNG UP ON ME. Yeah. WORST PLACE!!!!!! The food wasn't even good. Bad service. Bad food. Seriously do not support this restaurant.

I had very limited food.... just ordered the appetizer A platter to share with my friend as he wanted deep fried prawns.. everything was deep fried , greasy and awful. My friend swears the other classic dishes are good as he has been going there for years... but I do not eat big platters of Chinese food for lunch so I was not interested in trying them. I did have the dim sum steamed dumplings which were just ok. To be fair maybe it's an ok place? but it's just a little no character hole in the wall NOT my style at all I good see it was mostly Asian people/ regulars eating there. The waitress was pretty nice.. prices ok... but I would not recommend this place unless you are desperate.

Gold Penny is a very basic 'tables & chairs' Chinese food restaurant, not fancy at all, but the food is good, reliable and affordable. Extensive menu gives you lots of choices. My friend and I shared a generous plate of chicken chow mein with a mix of vegetables and a generous plate of salt and spicy prawns in the shell. Shells are edible and delicious with the coating. It was very filling for both of us for only $25.

We picked up some S&S pork, fried tofu and vegetables one evening for around $23. We made our own rice at home and had enough food to feed both of us for dinner that night and the next. That's pretty good value and the food was good. Good for a take away anyway. The atmosphere doesn't seem to be much inside and the service was not very friendly.
