Clean place with pleasant service, but the dim sum food quality was very poor and not worth the price. We ordered the pork siu mai, but it’s a “bait and switch” with the actual food being drastically different than the photo in the menu. See attached photo where they plopped the food on the table, which looked like it came out of a back alley. The dim sum food quality from the frozen aisle in T&T is vastly superior than what’s served here.
I was pleasantly surprised to come across this place while walking in the area. I remember going to Hon’s years ago on Keefer. I ordered the wonton noodle soup and my partner got veggie chow menu. For me it was almost like comfort food and we were quickly seated and brought tea. The place is small but clean and had a good atmosphere. There were some crunchy bits in my wontons which I’m not sure what it was. My partner’s chow mein was just noodles and onions. Though the prices were good I feel maybe they could have tossed in a little carrot and mushrooms or something. The lady who served us was nice and we would definitely return next time we are in the area.
We decided to grab a bite on the patio at Hon’s Wonton House. We have not been to a Hon’s restaurant in years. We ordered rice rolls, potstickers, beef brisket noodles and spicy pork lo mein with wontons. The flavours brought back a lot of memories dining at the Chinatown location on Keefer St. The rice rolls, potstickers, and beef brisket noodles were good. The spicy pork lo mein with wontons was a miss. The soup that came with it had too much white pepper and it was undrinkable.I would still come back if in the neighborhood. Hopefully the soup is better next time.
This restaurant is the fast-paced alternative to the Hon's I've known since childhood. The delicious food and quick service make it perfect for a speedy meal. I visit at least once a month, if not more, and it never fails to impress. My favorite part is their amazing soups.
