My husband and I both got the spicy sausage crumpet sandwich, and for drinks we ordered an Americano and an iced hazelnut latte. Spicy sausage crumpet sandwich: For those who don 't know what a crumpet is (I didn 't! , crumpets are small round griddled breads that are thin with a spongy texture. I don 't think I 've ever had a crumpet before, so it was actually really neat, and I quite liked it! The spicy sausage patty was actually really delicious, not too salty, and had just a small amount of spice/kick. However, both our sandwiches came out a little cold, especially towards the middle. After taking a few bites of it, it didn 't seem sanitary to ask the workers to heat it up some more, but the cold temperature really decreased our enjoyment of the sandwich. I didn 't personally taste my husband 's Americano, but he just described it as forgettable. My hazelnut latte was fine, but tasted a little watered down, and I 've just had better hazelnut lattes elsewhere. I would consider coming back for their breakfast sandwich, and just ask that they heat it up really well, haha. I 'd suggest going somewhere else for coffee though.
The coffee is good, but much like its namesake, this café can be a bit tricky to locate since it’s nestled inside another building. I wish they had a wider variety of pastries and food items! I visited around 10 AM on a weekday and had to wait in line for a short while. I ordered a latte with almond milk and a slice of their red velvet loaf, while my boyfriend chose a mocha and a breakfast sandwich. The coffee was enjoyable, though not outstanding—it got the job done and was pleasantly non-acidic. I appreciate that they provide free milk alternatives for drinks up to 12oz, but there's a $0.25 extra charge for iced beverages. The red velvet loaf was moist and delicious, and my boyfriend liked his breakfast sandwich, which came with egg, sausage, cheese, and tomato on an English muffin. However, I was somewhat let down by the limited food selection and would absolutely love to see more baked goods available in the future.
This is a hidden gem that's easy to overlook, so be sure to look for their banner outside on the sidewalk. They're located right in the lobby of the VSO School of Music. I absolutely love their coffee; I've visited several times just to enjoy a simple brewed coffee or an Americano. On my most recent visit, I tried their seasonal Salted Caramel Latte (half sweet) for around $9 for a large. The coffee is delicious, the service is quick, and the staff—including Robert—are incredibly friendly and efficient. They also offer food like sandwiches and pastries, though I haven't had a chance to try them yet. Their lattes always come with a beautifully dense, frothy foam. This has become one of my go-to coffee spots in downtown. There's plenty of seating available, and it's a cute, cozy atmosphere that's perfect for a chat over a nice cup of coffee. I also appreciate the complimentary milk substitutions for up to a 12oz cup.
If you're going to call yourself the best coffee in Vancouver, you better bring receipts. My tasting companion is a coffee snob one of those guys who's been known to drive 30 mins for a particular roast. We both like light to medium roasts which have higher acidity and more complex flavors. Incognito is medium to dark roast which gave it a robust flavor but it was too bitter for me. It was most obvious with the americano but I noticed it with the latte as well. A good cup of coffee but not the best.. at least in my opinion. I tried the almond croissant and it was a little stale. To be fair, it was 11am so I'm guessing it had already been in the case for a few hours. I liked incognito I just didn't love it
Found at the entrance of the VSO, building, Incognito is typical of a cafe adjacent to an educational institution. Light snacks, coffee and beverages are on offer from the small counter tucked away in the far back corner. While being warmly greeted by service staff, very clean premises and good overall appearance due to the mostly concrete walls, large staircase and open seating to the building entrance, you never really feel like this is a defined space and more than a convenience. I will say very good hospitality and the condiment station was fully loaded. If you're attending VSO it's great but all the pastries and snacks look like they are probably made offsite so it feels like a coffee break spot.
