While staying at a nearby hotel, to visit a hospitalized relative we invariably came here every morning for breakfast and an occasional lunch. Breakfast was pretty standard and freshly prepared while you waited. During the week we visited there seemed to be a good variety of dishes from which to choose at lunch time. .
This is the main eating place for the VGH. Went there on Sunday and it was poor due to limited selection. Monday was another story with good selection of noodles and pasta and sandwich station where one could pick and choose ingredients and sauces. Tried the rice noodles and it was good; wife took udon and was really impressed too. Very good!
Who would have guessed I would find the Best Pizza I ever ate at a Hospital Cafeteria ? lol everyone in my party had something that impressed us ,big time.
It was only today that I realized that there was another cafeteria in the Jim Pattison Pavilion. I previously believed that only the Cafe Ami existed (on the 1st floor). Prices at Sassafras is more reasonable but Cafe Ami is more comfortable and maintains longer hours of operation. To be fair Sassafras does offer more food selection and appears to be the establishment of choice by hospital staffers.
For hospital food it is not too badYou got various dishes both eastern and western style.
