There is a section for bakery, chilled drinks and coffee. Then there is a self-bedded salad bar where the contents are weighed at the cashier. I bought an average salad and it cost me $8.35. There are pre-packed salads called Buddha's Delight at $9.99. You can get free water in small plastic cups that they supply. The seating area is huge. There is an old beat-up piano that is used to entertain people at certain times (I have never heard it is played). There are washrooms in the seating area.
I've been eating at Sassafras last month or something while I visited my father in the hospital, and today, while I wait for the son's smaller operation. Service was relatively good. The food was good, but not great. I ordered breakfast today. Stir, sausage and toast. Server made my eggs and put them in containers with sausage. Then I heard that the server says to another toast in the toaster. She put my eggs and sausage under heat. It took what my wife and I thought would be done for a long time for toast. I'm not sure what took so long to be done. I ask server if my eggs get cold? She said they weren't under heating. I don't like cold eggs or eggs sitting. I thought the eggs weren't great.
By far, this Food Fair had the best offers in the city for us. During a stay at a nearby hotel to visit a hospital stay, we always came here every morning for breakfast and an occasional lunch. Breakfast was fairly normal and freshly prepared while you were waiting. During the week we visited there seemed to be a good selection of dishes from which to choose lunch. .
This is the 'main' eating place for the VGH. On Sunday sitting there and it was bad due to the limited selection. Monday was another story with a good selection of pasta and pasta and sandwich station where you could choose and choose ingredients and sauces. Tried the rice noodles and it was good; She took Udon and was really impressed. Very good!
