It's part of an east vancouver area that is being gentrified so The Heatley fits nicely into the neighbourhood because it has a faux gritty...hipster, eclectic vibe. The drink selection was just ok; not as many craft beer and cider options as expected for this kind of establishment but everyone found something they liked and the food was good, service prompt and thoughtful. I especially liked the ambience and decor; they have some very cool wall murals. Worth making the effort to get to if you aren't from the neighbourhood.
I've been to the Heatley times within the past months. It's a fun, cool, hipster hangout along East Hastings with local craft beer, some delicious food on the menu, and the occasional live music gig happening. It's clear they love music here. Also,...I've been quite impressed with the food. The pulled pork sandwich with salad and fries really hit the spot. I'd recommend going if you're in the neighbourhood. Go with friends and go for the live music. The service, though friendly and well-meaning, can sometimes be a bit head-in-the-clouds, although I'd argue it's because it always looks like they're short staffed even when it's busy.
We stumbled out of gas town and were in search of food on a busy Thursday night without any reservations. We found this place which was appealing. Friendly staff. Dark lighting. Decent atmosphere. Actually a great place for a drink and conversation. Where the rating...drops is on the food. We were a group of looking for finger food to share. Menu did not match our goals. There were tacos though which we all tried. One variety was far too hot. I love spicy food but this was too basic. Simply cutting a Jalapeno and adding to a tortilla doesn't cut it. I hate giving bad reviews. Yet this place has great potential and good vibe. A small twist and more effort on the food would make this spot a place to go back to.
Stopped for dinner the owner (Michael) was working the bar. We found a booth and he was over almost immediately with water a menu. He took our drink order, offered some suggestions on the menu....which included a great soup....and we were not disappointed....The soup was delicious, the burger was very good and we topped it off with an apple crumble with vanilla ice cream. Very enjoyable. I enjoyed the ambiance of the place and the owner was very helpful and attentive. I will definitely go again and take friends.
From the outside, and also the neighborhood, this is another dive bar. However, from the inside, it is a great place to hang out. Good live jazz in the evenings. Great staff, good food, but would not recommend for the whole family--mature adults only.
