Contribuisci feedbackI just had a beautiful 8 course tasting menu at La Boucherie and I was very impressed. I have been to The French Laundry, Manresa, and several other extremely high end restaurants and I think the food was lovely here. To combat the very scrouge-like one star reviews they recently received, I would like to put a few facts out there. First of all, the same people who run the restaurant, also run the farm Sea Breeze Farm seabreezefarm.net on the North End of Vashon Island and you can tell that what they do is very special. This restaurant and tasting menu is a labor of love for these people and I was treated with total kindness and care. I loved the food, and so did my husband! The price for the tasting menus also include tax and tip, for those who mentioned it was expensive. I don 't think it was expensive at all for what was presented. I have paid far more for far less food that tasted half as good. I, personally, think one star reviews are cruel and undeserved for this place. The owners/operators obviously put their heart into the food from the beginning to end and I commend them for it. I wanted to leave an additional tip even though it was already included in the price. Rose was so sweet to me. I was not drinking the wine pairings as I was driving that night and she wanted to make sure I had something to sip on during the meal. She made a few special things for me and did not even charge me for them. She did not need to do that, but she wanted to make sure my meal was just as pleasant as my husband 's was as he was enjoying the wine pairings. That would not have happened in one of the other high end places I mentioned. Also, the building is very old, as is the entire town of Vashon. This adds to its character and I love that it is not some crazy high end interior place. It felt elegant and like the French country-side. We sat on the large outdoor patio and it was extremely pleasant. I wish I lived closer so that I could come more often to taste the various recipes. I 'm sure they are all wonderful.
I really appreciate all the work guys are doing on the farm and in the restaurant. I will try to be fair in the review. We 've been to the restaurant on July 11, 2015. We 've found it via Yelp and were very excited with all the pictures and reviews. There are couple things I 'd wanted to clarify first: First pictures at Yelp don 't represent real environment and interior of the place. It 's actually pretty old and rustic. To be fair it 's pretty cozy though. Second price range at Yelp is incorrect. Having dinner for two for 270 is not , I believe it should be . Third food is not really great for such price. It 's good, seems to be organic, it 's served great, but 135 per person for tasting menu is even higher than in affordable Michelin starred restaurant in NYC. Food taste in La Boucherie is definitely not comparable with such. Fourth service is not good. Rose was describing courses thoroughly, however when we decided to leave, neither she or someone else asked us was everything good or not. We 've been offered with tasting menu containing full menu 135/person or 95/person without drinks and half menu 95/person or 75/person without drinks . We 've selected half menu with no drinks per person. Neither one of first 4 courses was really tasty, they were just good enough. We became feeling a bit puzzled considering we committed to pay 75*2 for whole dinner. So, we asked Rose if we can pay for half menu after fourth course. Rose brought the check without asking us what was wrong. Bottom line Pros: coziness, courses are looking great, cutlery are good, tips/tax included into price, good restroom. Cons: very expensive for such a food, stinky water cups, waiter 's dirty fingers, relatively poor service.
The experience of arriving in a mall parking lot gave us second thoughts about our upcoming experience but. What a delight it turned out to be. Our spot on the porch was perfect on this June evening. Our meal was an adventure and a surprise. Perfect little bites with unusual combinations--imagine Parmesan ice cream that is so creamy you want to just make a meal of that! The wine pairings were not only spot on but our glasses were refilled often and the fact that some were made on site made them even more special. Or only criticism would be for an opportunity to rinse glasses between wine pairings. The staff made this evening Rose was our server and explained each dish in an interesting and informative way.
Incredible meal and personal experience that trumps some of my top fine dining experiences. This quaint and warm restaurant boasts a powerful punch of flavor with every dish-money well spent. I was impressed beyond measure with all of the flavors and textures and absolutely loved the staff. Do yourself a favor and order 6 courses. You can't beat the price for what they offer.
If I could give 6 stars, I would. Very small, intimate warm place with the perfect mix of global music. All the table tops are made from 1 large tree from their property worth running your hands over, they kept just enough texture of the wood grain on the top bark on the sides to really appreciate it. Most ingredients (plant animal) came from their farm, butter churned that day even. Each dish was perfectly balanced explained in a non-pretentious way, which was a relief to me as that can ruin a perfectly good meal, in my mind. I keep going back forth on my favorite dish of the night but it's hard. The soup had the perfect texture, flavors temperature to make me want to wear it. The hand made ravioli were such an amazing texture but light. The duck breast had a perfect balance of seared glazing. Most places will sear that glaze too far makes it hard, nope, not here. I even tried the beef tartare it blew my mind. That kiwi jam on the top pulled that dish together the meat was perfect temperature. This is coming from a gal who has to have her steaks burgers medium well. I didn't take pics of the food but they were kind enough to write it all down for us another friend did take photos. I could never imagine trying to recreate these dishes because I know I could never do them justice. This love of the craft, food quality, the look on your face as you eat your feedback mean everything to them. Plus, they are a couple that is in so much love with not only the above but each other, it makes you smile just to see them interact. It's almost infectious. I've even already reserved the 10 course farm to table experience for my husbands birthday surprise a month away. I can't wait to see him close his eyes savor each bite as only he can do. Pure pleasure contentment on his face. If you ever want to do something super special for someone, take them there. Even if just once in your lifetime. Seriously.
