We had shocking customer service here. We were brusquely told that we couldn't sit at the table of our choice as it was booked (no label on it) and then made to sit very close between 2 other tables. I can't comment on the food - as we never got any. We were totally ignored for about 20 minutes, then a bottle of water and 2 glasses were plonked in front of us. We had time to drink it all and observe 2 girls study the menu board and then sit down at the table that was supposedly "booked" . They too were ignored for some time before getting water, which they drank whilst chatting, then gave up and left. Another 15 minutes later, just as we were about to do the same the sour faced proprietor/waitress came across and said, in a rather challenging tone, did we have a problem? - not I'm sorry for your wait or anything. We did then actually place our order, but had to ask for a wine list, as she didn't suggest drinks. Another 5 minutes and that was plonked onto the table. Then nothing. ....... No eye contact from either waitress, no "what would you like to drink" . Enough already - nearly an hour had passed and all we'd had was a bottle of water. So we left - but we did give them the courtesy of telling them that we were going. Still no word of apology!! These people are in the wrong business.
Lovely food starter of smoked salmon would of cost more to buy in supermarket in UK than they charged.good value
We booked this place because the reviews on here seemed good. However, I wonder if it has changed hands/chefs since the majority of the reviews were written? The fodd didn't seem anything like the food described in the previous reviews. We were seated outside and it is a nice location with attractive decor. We ordered mains and desserts only. There was only a choice of three starters, three mains and three desserts. My daughter and I had the confit duck leg which came with chips and salad, as did the cod my husband had. There was no option to choose different accompaniments. The duck leg was nice with a sort of sticky orangey sauce and the chips were just OK. The cod was well cooked with a turmeric sauce which was nice but a bit thin. It all looked quite rustic but the prices were fairly high end - 20 euros for mains and 6 to 7 for desserts. Now comes the big let down. We all ordered the Fondant au Chocolat avec Creme Anglaise, expecting an oozing and hot chocolate fondant pudding served with a light creamy vanilla custard. No. What we got was a cold, overcooked brownie that tasted of sugar but not of chocolate. The Creme Anglaise was a crime - watery and tasteless. I love chocolate but this really was inedible - none of us could eat more than a mouthful of the dry, dense and flavourless dessert. I did tell the waitress that we were disappointed and to tell the chef that it was not good enough but we got no feedback and nothing off the bill. I am not in the habit of writing poor reviews but I am afraid this one left me no choice.
Last nigt we received a Very friendly welcome from owner (wife). Explained all the ingredients for each of the 3 meals in each section (starter, main, dessert). Both hubby and I chose the soup, then beef but different desserts. I would of liked a little more in portions of the soup and vegetables accompanying the meat. The size of the meat was more than adequate for me. For 2 we paid 70 euros. Its a tad expensive but maybe thats the price for good quality home cooked food. We defiantly recommend, and WILL return, again as a couple and not with the kids. They wouldn't appreciate the food and prefer to stay at home with a kebab like last night :) . For those who dont know Vendome, its in the town centre with plenty of free parking spaces in the evening. However for lunch you'll need a disk as its in the blue parking area. Be Careful not to go if on market day as parking impossible.
