Austen's - Ventura

I’m giving this restaurant only 2 stars because our waiter, James, was very kind and attentive; otherwise, I would have rated it even lower. We ordered the margarita flatbread, which was just mediocre. It wasn’t fully cooked, and the tomatoes were unripe. My friend requested the house salad without feta, but when it arrived, it was heavily loaded with dry feta. I ordered the arbor salad, which came with four tiny unripe pieces instead of the advertised goat cheese—it was also covered in feta. I usually don’t write reviews, but I felt like I could have saved $75 and had a better meal elsewhere.

After searching for a place to avoid the long lines at other breakfast spots, we stumbled upon this gem, where we only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table—a pleasant surprise for Ventura! The menu was quite extensive, offering plenty of options. I decided to try the Pancake Special, but unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations. The pancakes were enormous and excessively fluffy for my taste, even though I usually enjoy fluffy American pancakes. The scrambled eggs were somewhat of a disappointment, lacking flavor and being a bit scarce on the plate; they were nearly overshadowed by the massive pancakes. On a positive note, the bacon was really tasty!

Eating was so lush and not expensive. the room was too warm for a dance. I'm sure I'm happy again!

These people know what they are doing. Despite covid and restaurant renovations (eating in a temporary area), we have one of the best meals that we eat in a long time fine eating at an affordable price. we thought it would be very reasonable for what we had (filling and pork plus appetizer). the hotel is a historical sign and its menu is very traditional. the server chose an excellent wein for us, so we did not try the cocktail menu, although it looked tempting. the steak was melt-in-your mouth perfection and everything else was delicious. if this hotel is completely renovated and the restaurant goes back to its normal place, it becomes a very popular, I think. go now, as long as there is no waiting list. they sit outside when the weather permits. they do not open each day, so check them before the time. 5 stars.

Waiter was informational and very pleasant. Restaurant was clean. Food was delicious and if in doubt, order the brussel sprouts, you won’t be disappointed.
