Brophy Bros. Restaurant Clam Bar Ventura

This is a great place! We began our evening at the bar, enjoying some happy hour specials, and then moved to an outdoor table with another couple for chowder and fish tacos. The only reason I gave it 4 stars for ambiance is that the standing heater was out of gas, and there wasn't a backup available.

Excellent local and view. Service exceptional but we had told server we had appointment to make and had not much time. Food outstanding except fish soup both a little heavy.

It's much better than some of the reviews I read before choosing this place. Food was great, but gotta say the clam cakes were not as good as we expected, and although the steamed clams were delicious....they need to wash them better. Found them a little gritty. We asked for a larger table as there were four of us. The long tables at the window are for non-reserved guests? So if you make a reservation, you get crammed into a 2'x2' table....we had to put the condiments on a borrowed chair just so our appetizers and food would fit on the table. But we were with good company, the service was actually very attentive, and despite my critic, it was a good time had by all. They brought my wife a huge slice of ice cream cake for her birthday. Good choices of wine and beer along with other cocktails. I would certainly hit them up again. Overall....pretty nice place.

Nothing special. house wines very average and so marked as being a form of aversion therapy. more menu options and better wine prices are required. overall, okay but saved by the harbour views.

We had reservations, but were sitting in the covered deck. the heavy fish was good, but we didn't care about salsa and guacamole. the clam chowder and salate were good. the great disappointment was the wein. bad choice of cheap wein who was overpriced three times. it ruined the otherwise nice meal. I told the server that the wine selection was a disappointment and asked them to say the management. I'd say whoever cares about it can't drink to us! I am sure we will return, but we will order beer or bring our own wein and pay the $20 corkage!
