Too many other choices in VB to settle for mediocrity and the server was more concerned about being a friendly comedian to get the ordervright. One of our guest ordered short ribs and he brought a pork chop. Admitted he made a mistake because he was too busy yaking and not paying attention to our needs. He also brought the wrong drink and another of our guest ordered fijitas and got three strips of chewy steak and four small shrimp. Awful experience. Rip Off. And....Friday night place was not busy....don't think they will last another year.
Some of our food was hot other things were called even though they were supposed to be hot We were seated at 6:20 waitress took our drink order at 6:30 bartender said we could not have happy hour prices it was after by the time she place the order : The place has a few kinks to work out hopefully you’ll be better in the future
Salsa with chips was very flavorful. Beef and shrimp tacos are good. Wasn’t crazy about the shell. Wasn’t crisp for corn tortilla, probably would have been better on a flour tortilla. Lemon chicken enchilada was good. Steak enchilada was not. The steak was bite-sized yet very tough and chewy. I think serving it in a corn tortilla instead of flour) didn’t help. The black beans on the side had been puréed as far as I could tell and were tasteless. Specialty margarita was excellent but over priced. Next time I’ll try the house margarita instead. If I return, I’ll try something from the specials menu. I’m thinking Mexican is not their strong suit despite their name.
We hoped that Jake's would fill a missing niche in the Vero Beach food scene. After one visit, we think the Vero Beach area is still in need of a good Tex Mex restaurant. The food at Jake's was actually quite good. However, the dining experience was disappointing the tables at the restaurant were disgustingly filthy and the decor was essentially non existent. And...there is no frozen margarita machine. One gets the feeling that the owner is testing the Tex Mex concept and has not made a full commitment to the effort. Based on one experience, there may never be a second.
