We came here because it was recommended in Lonely Planet and our sat nav kept sending us the wrong way up one way streets trying to find out first choice for lunch. The waiter was welcoming and spoke English, giving us an English menu. He suggested we share the mixed fish grill (28 euros) which was ok but enough for 4 and the grilled fish was dry. The accompanying vegetables were stewed leaves of a cabbage variety with steamed carrots and huge amounts of potatoes. The recommended vinho verde was ok. The waitress was a bit gruff and gave herself a 4 euro tip when we paid the bill that included bread we did not touch.
Sundays in smallish towns can be interesting when looking for a place to eat. We were attracted by locals queuing for takeout so decided to eat in the restaurant. They have an in house bakery so also picked up some buns for later. Food very good and wait staff helpful. Very reasonable.
While looking for a different restaurant we noticed locals queuing at their 'deli ' counter and decider to give it a try. The menu was mainly fresh fish . Having had some recent bad experiences with 'manipulated ' reviews the fact that this restaurant was filled with locals by 9:00 is a recommendation in itself. The food was very good -not haut cuisine, at very reasonable prices. Service was very helpfull and pleasant.
This restaurant has the of portuguese cuisine. Eat there and than get a walk along the river. I am sure you'll be surprised.
