I booked them for a 400 person event and it seemed fine at the beginning but ended up being quite aweful in the end. First....they didn't have enough plates and cutlery for all my guests, not enough food food everyone, didn't have enough water glasses nor did they fill any glasses with water. Their serving/clearing staff didn't even clear the tables after dinner so I had to do it with 5 other guests. Dan & Micayla left early during the event....like seriously. They didn't serve all the food...so half my guests didn't eat...wtf. Then they didn't have any coffee or tea...WTF. Also not enough dessert or dessert plates. At the very end...they didn't even clean up the kitchen properly or outside the venue where they left their garbage so I lost my damage deposit for the venue. They had excuses after excuses after excuses. They are absolutely horrible and I wouldn't even step near this place in the future. 0 out of 5 in my books.
We have gone to the London Chef on 2 occasions. The first was a meet and greet sponsored by a friend. The food, experience and fun level was really good. It was a Spanish/Mediterranean themed night, and everyone followed instructions. There were around 12 of us. We made meatballs, squid, flatbread, and it was all delicious. The second time was an "advanced" Thai cooking class by Chef Heidi Fink. I think there were 16 of us. This is too large a group. We did not all cook the same dishes, and were given specific dishes to cook. Some of the participants could not follow instructions, and overcooked their dishes, which were then served to all of the participants. Had I received overcooked dishes in a restaurant I would have sent them back. Pad Thai, Satay, Green Curry were some of the things made. Why would you go to a cooking class and not listen to the chef? The rating I would give to Chef Dan is 5/5, and to Chef Heidi is 5/5.The rating to the first experience is 5/5 and the second is 3/5, hence the score of 4/5.My advice is to go with a group of friends, and try to find smaller classes. We will go back.
Chef Dan Hayes was awesome! We had so much fun cooking with him. We made three courses and all sat down together to eat. It's a bit pricey, but if you want a good night out and learn something new in the kitchen then this is ideal.
Chef Dan Hayes hosted an intimate group of 6 of us for a truly unforgettable experience and took us on a trip to Spain with an wonderfully prepared Paella. My wife and I have been to cooking classes and other private events and have never been disappointed. Whether you like to be hands on or not, there is something for everyone regardless of cooking experience. I will be back for my daughters birthday and look forward to seeing all those smiling faces.
Went to London Chef with my UVIC class and spent a few hours learning about different by-catch species then got to cut, gut, and watch them get cooked. Delicious, hands on, and educational with a great charismatic lead chef Dan Hayes.
