Victoria has the least Asian Chinatown I have ever seen so I guess it's not too strange that an afternoon tea place would be situated in the middle of
The original high tea place we wanted to go was closed for the day so we decided to try out Venus Sophia in the heart of Chinatown. Walking in the decor
We were in the area and looking for something to do. I searched afternoon tea and this place popped up. After a quick look at their website we called and made a reservation. They were able to accommodate us right away so down we went. We were not disappointed! The tea room is cute with all different chairs and teaware. I had the afternoon blend of tea which was fabulous. So fabulous I bought a big tin to take home! We had the afternoon tea so we had a big three tier tray of sandwiches and goodies. I didn't realize at the time when I booked that the restaurant was vegetarian, but I was happy when I realized that information because I don't like seafood on sandwiches (which have been served at other tea rooms I've visited). My favourites were the marscapone watermelon sandwich and the chocolate cake. The vanilla scone was the die for! Staff were lovely, kind and helpful. Thank you!
We had a very enjoyable signature afternoon tea on a Sunday at Venus Sophia. I liked this eatery. It was bright and the décor was simple and casual and I felt like I was in someone's home. We had a scone, 3 kinds of little sandwiches, chocolate covered strawberry and more; plenty of food. And each person could choose their own variety of tea. I liked that all the dishes didn't match; very eclectic. There were some bikes as part of the interior design and we are big cyclists. There was music playing and for a brief time a little girl was really engaged in the music and dancing; so cute. She really was "dancing like nobody was watching". $35 was a reasonable price for fresh food from scratch. We have been to plenty of high teas and enjoyed this one a lot. If you like everything to match and enjoy a more formal atmosphere you might not like Venus Sophia. But we loved it and a great location in Chinatown.
