Contribuisci feedbackChef is very famous in Korea because she was a judge of Masterchef KOREA series. I visited with my friends for dinner. We asked 8 courses of wine pairing dinner. Actually we had 9 different wines, Chef Kim gave us prosecco for free first. Starting from Korean style soup finished with bulgogi with rice and dessert. She served Austrian wines. I never imagine the marriage of Korean food with white wine, interestingly it matched nicely becasue the taste of food is not that spacy but exotic. My point is based on my preference. 3 points means good food and restaurant. 4 points means excellent food and restaurant, I will visit here again whenever I have a chance. 5 points means I will go here over and over again and I will inivite my dearesr friends here.
She came to Vienna over 20 years ago to study fashion! Today she is a leading proponent of inventive Asian cooking. She has a product line of her own, has written several cook books and has three different eateries (one vegan and one mostly meat) run by staff she has trained herself. But the place to start is here where she cooks and charms her guests! Doesn't matter what you order...a real class act!
I was there at lunch when they have reasonably priced lunch offers (12-15€) and it was amazing. You could taste that they use only the freshest ingredients of very high quality and the way the prepare the food is superb. We (a bunch of students) were treated very kindly, although compared with the other guests (rather business people) we were under-dressed. I can fully recommend this restaurant and although I could not afford to go there in the evening, I am sure it's worth the higher prices.
This is one of the best restaurants I've eaten in here in Vienna, and probably one of the best Asian restaurants I've eaten in, ever.I would suggest that you ignore the negative reviews below from 2015 and before, as they clearly do not apply to what is currently happening at Kim Kocht. We have eaten here twice, both times for lunch and we ordered the Chef's tasting menu both times. We were treated to an exquisitely prepared, nicely presented and efficiently served meal both times. My 10 year old son chose this for his "birthday" lunch (our first visit) and we brought my father-in-law here (a foodie himself), who was visiting from the US, for our most recent meal. The restaurant is small, but comfortable and a reservation (as indicated in other reviews) is a must, although the first time we visited they were able to seat us (a party of 5) for lunch without one.My children (10, 12, and 14) who enjoy good food, really liked the fresh made juices that they offered, and happily consumed everything that was set before them...stating, more than once, that this was some of the best Asian food they had ever had. Everything was delicious, but the tastes were unique. Kim (the owner and head Chef) takes a blend of the traditional Korean cuisine and infuses it with some less traditional elements, for example: tuna tar tar with a fresh guacamole and many other elements that when mixed together was delicious. This was served with slices of ginger bread...not "gingerbread" but a perfectly baked bread infused with ginger, showing Kim's depth of ability in the kitchen. I could have eaten several plates of that bread! Another course: a white asparagus dish (paying homage to a traditional Austrian favorite) in a light lemon sauce with a barley risotto...who would think that combination would work? But it did! A beef bulgogi and a Korean style barbecue Tuna were the main courses for our meal, and there were empty plates and happy faces all around. All of this is served by very friendly, polite, and capable wait staff, and Kim would jump in when needed to help. We enjoyed talking to her as well. The restaurant has a very relaxed atmosphere and is very comfortable. A group of Asian (we suspected Korean) tourists were seated at a table next to us, and they were obviously enjoying the food they were having. If you will be in Vienna, this is a restaurant not to miss! It is expensive and is only open limited hours, but this is how Kim keeps it real! It is obvious she has achieved an excellent balance!
The restaurant is very small. There are just a few tables. So Kim really cooks for you. Everything is cooked and prepared by Kim. We sat directly in front of her and she told us so many cool stuff about korean food while she was cooking. We had a four-course menu and it was excellent. The price was quite high, but it was worth it. I am vegetarian, so I asked for vegetarian food when we reservated a table.
