Recovery has been slow, but even while we were there for the week, two other popular restaurants finally re-opened. Coqui Fire was highly recommended to us by friends who had visited Vieques pre-storm, and we were looking forward to the food based upon the incredible photos and menus posted on the Facebook page. We arrived around 6:30PM, without reservations, and quickly realized our mistake. The place is cozy and on the smaller side, so seating fills up quickly. Fortunately, there was another couple who had arrived just a minute before us, who were in the same position. The other couple suggested sharing a table and the wonderful hostess was able to find a table for four. So, two couples who head been strangers only minutes before, quickly got to know one another and had a wonderful evening together. We split an appetizer of chips and fresh guacamole and I had a Coqui Fire Margarita, with their hot sauce in it. For dinner, I had pork fajitas and my wife had a chicken burrito. Both were excellent! I tried two different flavors of their famous hot sauces and both were very good. For dessert, we shared a very tasty banana custard dessert. The atmosphere inside Coqui Fire Cafe is great, as we were fortunate to have a table right near the kitchen, where we could watch the food being prepared and had opportunities to interact with the chef, who gave us his recommendations and checked in on us during the meal to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. Overall, our favorite meal during our week on the island. I highly recommend visiting this place when you come to Vieques. Just be sure to make reservations in advance, so you don't miss out!
Not just the best food we had on Vieques, one of the best dinners we've ever had. Enchiladas were out-of-this-world good, the Coqui Fire Margarita was spicy and amazing, and the Chocolate Panna Cotta was a perfect finish. This is a must for anyone on the island!
The food is exceptional, Mariah, our waitress is always professional and sweet and the owners come to ask about the meal. We never miss an opportunity for a first class meal at Coqui Fire.
Absolutely the most creative and delicious food! We make it a point to return on every visit. The food, service and hospitality are all top notch.
Thank you everyone for a beautiful birthday dinner and blueberry cheesecake treat. I haven’t tasted enchiladas that amazing since living in the Sonoran desert. What a truly delectable evening Chef, Cynthia and Team
