The famous Jazz Festival of Montreux has just started and what better place to be as to get out of the city than driving up to this remote auberge, clinging on the mountain side. The food is simple and compared to the prices from below, they are more than fair; you can also sleep there, in a dormitory. The only snag: you must have a car to take you up there otherwise, from the train station of Caux, it will take you about a good 90 minutes uphill alongside of the mountain road.
On the top of the breathtaking views, the staff is always super helpful and welcoming. We love the salads and the change of menu over the seasons.
Auberge de Sonchaux is absolutely worth a trip. Its not for the food but for the view all across lake geneva and into the mountains. By car a little adventure as only single lane and steep drops on either side. Food is ok with cheese and other fondue. Try Charbonnade its fun barbecue on the table.
This restaurant is a must for anyone visiting the Montreux area of Switzerland, so make a note of it for next year! I say next year because it closed for the season at the end of October. Our party of four had lunch at a picnic table on the terrace with spectacular views over Lake Leman, Three of us had the grillade with salad and we cooked the meat ourselves which was great fun. One had the rosti with Tomme (local cheese) and fried egg which he thoroughly enjoyed. For dessert we all had home-made apricot tart with ice cream. A really delicious and memorable meal. By the way we drove to the auberge along a narrow mountain road which was an experience in itself and should not be missed.
