When we lived in Mackay we always stopped for hot chooks on the way home and also if we just wanted to get good healthy food made fresh and served by friendly staff.

The perfect spot to 'duck' into to grab your lunch on the run. Always friendly staff, quick service, fresh food & delicious.

Made the mistake of going in here to get dinner. It was obvious I wasn't a local and the service pretty much reflected that, or maybe they treat everyone that way. Thirty minutes of my life I won't be getting back waiting for a chicken...More

They're delicious. I wouldn't get one from a supermarket again! They also do really nice sandwiches and have a variety of other take away food.

If you find yourself in the town of Mackay for any length of time, and you like chicken, be sure to make your way to Chick-A-Dee Takeaway on Nebo Road. This place has some of the best roasted chicken you have ever tasted. The bird is stuffed with a delicious dressing before it is roasted. The meat is tender and juicy, and cooked just right. We ordered a half of chicken and some chips. The woman behind the counter prepared an order of chips and asked us if we wanted gravy on them. We both looked at one another because we had never heard of such, and in unison, said, " no thank you". The look on the woman's face was one of genuine disappointment. And, in a questioning tone, she said, "you don't want gravy"? In order to make her feel better, I said, oh sure, let's give the gravy a try. When we got back to the car with our meal in the takeaway bag, we both mentioned her disappointment that we did not want the gravy. In short order, we learned why. Those chips with that gravy have to be one of the most delicious things we have eaten since traveling to Australia. They are so good, we'd vote for a franchise back in the States. On second thought, perhaps that's not a good idea. We have enough overweight Americans as it is, and it would be no time before we would have to count ourselves among them. Chick-A-Dee Takeaway is located on Nebo Road which is a major street with parking all along the street in front of the building. Just thinking about this place makes me hungry. I might add that the prices are very reasonable, and a great value.
