Cholo's Peruvian - Virginia Beach

CAUTION! Credit card fraud alert! My credit card was charged twice a week after dining at this restaurant. The owner, who initially served me, had a very rude attitude. She assumed I was Hispanic and spoke to me in Spanish, but when I told her I was not Hispanic, she either took offense or thought I was lying. After that, she refused to speak to me and ignored any questions I asked once I mentioned I did not speak Spanish. She slammed my plate on the table and never returned to check on my table.

I couldn't resist the fried yucca - it was so crispy and delicious on the outside! I dipped it in one of their sauces, which only made it taste even better. The purple corn drink was surprisingly tasty and refreshing. Our server was extremely attentive, providing excellent service throughout our meal.

So far, my experience at this restaurant has been awful. The customer service was incredibly rude, and I felt like I was blamed for the server's bad day. What a letdown! My family and I live in Maryland and were on vacation in Virginia Beach when we decided to try this restaurant. Unfortunately, the food was subpar and overpriced. As a Peruvian, I can confidently say that the food did not resemble authentic Peruvian cuisine at all. The dishes were burnt and when I asked for suggestions, the server had none to offer. This was a disappointing experience overall, and I strongly advise against dining at this restaurant.

My wife and I are regulars at this restaurant, and she always gets the same dish. One time, the food was prepared incorrectly and the portion sizes were small, leading to a disappointing meal. However, the owner noticed that my wife did not finish her food (which is unusual for her) and asked for feedback without getting upset. We returned a month later and the owner remembered my wife's previous complaint, ensuring that everything was perfect this time around. The service was exceptional, and we appreciated the attention to detail. Overall, a great dining experience.

The waiter was extremely disrespectful towards us. He informed us that they no longer had a certain dish available. When we inquired about how long it would take to prepare another dish, he abruptly walked away and returned 10 minutes later, stating it would take a long time. When we asked for clarification, suggesting 30 minutes or an hour, he rudely yelled at us and eventually said it would take 1 hour and 30 minutes before walking away again. I was shocked by his behavior and will not be returning to that establishment. There is a better Peruvian restaurant just 5 minutes away. The service was extremely poor and not worth our time.
