I enjoyed the Short Soup (best I've had in years) and the Fillet steak with pepper sauce (sliced think and served with sauce). Very good indeed. The desert was also fresh and enjoyable banana fritter with iced cream hot crispy fritter). Very reasonable prices and good service.
We don't usually eat Chinese food, but when we do, Heng Loong is the best! Tonight we dined in and had a great experience. The service was excellent, and the owner personally interacts with the customers. We highly recommend trying the dumplings, wontons, and fried dim sims. We also enjoyed the beef ho fan and Peking steak. To top it off, we indulged in some delicious fried ice cream. They offer a good selection of drinks as well. Overall, everything was fantastic! While it may not be the cheapest option, you certainly get what you pay for in terms of quality.
It was getting a bit late in the day as we were heading home via Wallsend so we checked out google for a good chinese restaurant. We found the Heng Loong, Thanks Mr Google what a find... Set in the former Old Wallsend Library with its ornate and high ceilings... It didn 't take long for our food order to arrive but when it did it 'knocked me over ' with its full Asian flavours and superb taste. I even found my old favourite from years back, Garlic Prawns in a hot metal dish... Everything else we ordered was just as good, I highly recommend the Heng Loong for a great Chinese Meal..
When in town I have gone to this restaurant 4 times now 3 to dine and once to get takeaway. i realised this week that the only reason i keep going back is because wallsend does not have a better option and i realised that i like going to heng loong not for the food but because its in a nice old library building. the decor is new and fresh and it feels nice inside not the usual tacky Chinese decor of the past. The takeaway i ordered was a short soup and a rice noodle dish. soup noodles were over cooked and the filling was the worst I ever tasted, the noodles looked like a pad thai but all i could taste was soy sauce, not that great at all. this week i went there with a few people and mongolian lamb was so tender it tasted like sludge instead of actual meat an awful experience. The rice was okay no where near the best and certainly not what you expect from a so called restaurant winner. the soup noodles once again were over cooked and the inside while tasting okay not great looked more like very dense i was gong to say dog food) strange texture and colour unlike any dumpling i have ever had. none of us liked the food. it wasnt awful but ... actually it kind of was. The worst thing was... each of us had the worst flatulence, it was so bad that i had to ask the others and each of my friends said well funny that you ask so.. it would be great to know what is it that they actually put in the food there ?? This restaurant claims to be the best in the area, thats not because you are so great heng loong but because you are the only Chinese restaurant pretty much in that area all the great ones have closed over the years. you are missing a great opportunity. you have great location, really great building, pretty good staff and really bad food. there isnt a better option in the area at the moment but my pick over this would be the fire station hotel. not Chinese but the food is good. if you want good chineese go to pauls asian in Lambton a 10 minute drive. i havnt reviewed anything in so long but this was bad enough to get me out of retirement. I actually wish we all went to maccas instead.
This is my go to chinese takeaway. Food is consistently delicious. I have tried a variety of dishes my favourite is always Beef Ho Fan but haven't had a bad meal at all. Staff is friendly and attentive. It is a wee pricey for takeaway tho specially if ordering for a whole family.
