I have been here many times before, but today there were dirty cups and plates on numerous tables that were not cleaned properly. The floors were also dirty and in need of a good scrub. The staff seemed overwhelmed, with the man looking like he was swamped and the young girl appearing distracted. Despite its great location, the café's poor standards left much to be desired.
I have been visiting this cafe for more than a decade, but it seems to be deteriorating each year, much like a cake left in a hot car. The prices of the food are exorbitant, the sandwiches are stale, and the bacon seems to still be on the pig when served. Behind the cafe, you can see cakes and other items stored in the back of a car, looking unappetizing. The cafe advertises fresh cakes, but it appears they have been left to spoil in the car, especially in warm weather. Additionally, they only accept card payments for purchases of five pounds or more, which can be inconvenient. The staff appear flustered and can be rude at times. Despite a recent renovation, the only change seems to be the addition of a serving table and the removal of chairs, making the space cramped. The only decent item on the menu is the overpriced ice cream, which also requires a minimum purchase of five pounds. The lack of variety in the food choices and the excessive greasiness of the chips are disappointing. The cutlery provided is cheap and flimsy, breaking easily. There are concerns about the food stored in the car, as it is unclear if it is fresh or left there for days on end. The money spent at this cafe would be better invested in a renovation to improve the overall experience.
I have visited these tea rooms several times with grandson husband. Clean airy, attentive staff, pleasant light menu reasonable prices. Serve a good coffee, welcome rest after a busy morning in park.
Was served by a tall lass, very upset when she appeared to not properly comprehend that me name is actually Jeff. Coffee was pengting however
I visited today with my boyfriend and dog after a walk around the park. It was nice to be welcomed by such friendly staff members and was surprised that the tea rooms were open despite the awful weather. My boyfriend had a bacon batch and cappuccino which was in a deal they offer. I treated myself to the homemade carrot and orange cake which was delicious. Also tried their loose earl grey tea which came in a cute tea set. We were both really happy with the service, quality of food and great drinks. Will definitely return, hopefully when the sun is out so I can try a Mr whippy!
