Doubles - Washington

This place was much better than it was Colony Club. Maybe it's COVID, maybe it's crime, but the hours are crazy unrealistic (to close at 3:00?! and the menu, while good, could be extended. This place used to be my café. Now it is a shadow of its former self with tons of unrealized potential.

Best cafe on Georgia Ave. Ask the staff are friendly and their coffee tastes great. Would be even better if they had longer operating hours.

I first visited Doubles today (Monday 11:30). I went with a pretty simple icy vanilla latte and the Love Game Sandwich. The icy vanilla latte is served over large ice cubes, which is nice when you're a slow sipper like me. Smaller ice cubes tend to melt faster, leading to a watered ice coffee before the taste can even be enjoyed. The latte was half sweet, but the taste of vanilla was hardly different from the first swallow. I would recommend more vanilla syrup. The Love Game Sandwich, consisting of egg, cheddar, bacon, tomato jam and chili oil on Focaccia, was very delicious. The tomato jam and chili oil gave the traditional bacon/Egg/Cheese combo a perfectly balanced spicy sweet supplement. I had expected that the sandwich was about half its size when I ordered, so I was pleasantly surprised to take the other half home for an afternoon snack. When I arrived at 11:30 on Monday, the lower floor was full. I didn't check the outside terrace, but decided to go to the second floor. It is a beautiful size with 6 or 7 two seat table and has large windows that offer lots of natural light. It is worth noting that there is a table tennis table in the middle of the floor. If you are visiting focus, studying or performing a business meeting, you can occasionally be interrupted by ping-pong players above. Of course, people are quite excited and competitive over Ping Pong and the balls tend to fly over the tables. A few balls on or under my table and table opposite me, not the end of the world, but if you try to avoid distractions, I recommend sitting on the first level (in or on the heated terrace). Overall, service and food and beverage offers were quite good. Many available seats and I will definitely come back!

The best neighborhood cafe. Lovely inside or out. great coffee great vibes great food. Only negative is that there are not tons of tables and not many plugs

We came here for the first time today when we were in the area and we loved it! The breakfast sandwich Aces was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I have had in the entire DC area. The lattes we got were very good as well. Also, there was PLENTY of seating and some great spaces to work as well. Definitely recommend!!
