As a Canadian walleye lover, I can confidently say this was the closest experience to catching it myself and enjoying it for a shore lunch. Plus, they serve the best pie and carrot cake!
This restaurant used to be Big Boy, but it has since rebranded and improved significantly. The staff here is incredibly friendly. Their walleye is outstanding! They serve generous portions with each meal. If you're looking to enjoy all-you-can-eat walleye, I recommend visiting on a Tuesday or Thursday. They cook it perfectly every time!
I have had several meals at this restaurant, and I've particularly loved the soups available at the salad bar, usually around six varieties! In addition to the all-you-can-eat fried fish specials, the dinners also feature delicious options like stuffed cabbage rolls, stuffed peppers, and homemade lasagna. They've recently introduced cocktails to the menu, along with locally brewed pints for just a dollar—what a great deal! The portions are generous, and the service is both quick and friendly, creating a relaxed dining atmosphere that’s perfect for families. I look forward to coming back again soon.
I really love this restaurant! They have some unexpected specials, delicious homemade soups, and $1.00 draft beers. I've tried the all-you-can-eat walleye, stuffed peppers, and stir fry, and all of them came in generous portions, at the right temperature, and looked great on the plate. The service is friendly, but it could be a bit quicker when it comes to bringing requested items and refills. The salad bar is a highlight, featuring five different soups and a wide selection of salad options. They also offer bread and tapioca pudding for dessert.
I sampled everything from the salad bar, and it was perfectly fine. Unlike some places that rush to toss out dishes after a few minutes, this restaurant seems to understand that good food can be left out a bit longer. I spotted some overly cautious diners who seem convinced that food is unsafe after just five minutes; their reviews can be a bit annoying. But for those of us who know better, I had no issues with the food, and neither did my party of four. We tried everything at the salad and soup bar, and everything was fresh. It seemed they prepared the ingredients themselves rather than using pre-packaged items—like using whole eggs instead of egg mix and frying real bacon instead of using bits. The soups were hearty and definitely didn’t taste like they came straight from a GFS can, which is a nice change compared to some other Coney Island restaurants. Our waitress seemed a bit detached, possibly even robotic, but she was efficient. The other staff members appeared to be doing well, too—perhaps it was just one of those days for her. As for drinks, I don’t usually drink much, but $1 AmberBock pints from 2-8 PM every day? That’s a steal! In terms of price, if you’re a light eater, you might find the salad and soup bar a bit pricey. However, as a runner, I felt I definitely got my $8.99 worth! Those who claim the ham sandwiches on the bar are subpar might just have high standards; I thought they were perfectly fine. Overall, this restaurant will become a regular spot for my family and me. It’s a great place for those who appreciate classic Midwest flavors. If you’re planning to bring a vegan, activist, young socialist friend from San Francisco, you might want to choose a different place.
