Set in an old cottage in the high street this is a classic English tea room with friendly staff and a very reasonably priced menu. They also sell bread and cakes and possibly the best bread pudding in Sussex
Good menu, great service, reasonable prices. Lovely little place for lunch or afternoon tea. We will definitely be going back.
Impromptu visit to a town I lived in for a couple of years back in the sixties. I 'd read good things about the Homely Maid, so my wife and I popped in for some refreshments just before 1. Warm greeting from the young lady serving who gave us the table recently vacated. This is a compact and well laid out tearoom the has a distinct feel of 'yesteryear ' and I mean that in a positive way. Service was prompt and the menu was surprisingly full in it 's variety, something to suit all palates I should imagine. Looking around at our fellow diners, most of them seemed to be tucking into a wholesome looking lunch of sandwiches, cakes and scones. We settled for the sandwiches plus scones with Jam and clotted cream with a pot of tea. Our order arrived very quickly and each item tasted freshly made. It 's a long time since we 've had tea made with tea leaves out of a teapot, and very good it was too. They certainly didn 't scrap on the clotted cream or butter and we each had our own jam. We thought the price was very reasonable too. Just note that should you require their 'high tea ', which seems to be one of their specialities, they like it ordered before your visit.
Excellent service and outstanding coffee! This is an historic building with period oak beams and a nice peaceful ambience.
