Cooper's On 5th - West Des Moines

The food was delicious, and the service was very friendly and fast. The bar had a cozy atmosphere. The meat we enjoyed was some of the best I've ever had. The drinks were good, though I prefer them a bit stronger—just a personal preference. I will definitely be returning regularly.

I had a delightful dinner at a charming restaurant. Following the recommendations of previous reviewers, I made a reservation ahead of time, which I highly suggest since the venue is on the smaller side. We ordered the steak deburgo, a local specialty, and the short ribs, both of which were fantastic! After dinner, I also recommend heading over to the Winchester Public House for some tasty cocktails.

The restaurant has a charming old-school vibe that's relaxed and modern at the same time. The atmosphere feels like a cozy, nostalgic steakhouse, with a fun mix of 90s and 2000s alternative music playing in the background. I highly recommend trying the daily egg roll special; these aren't your typical Chinese egg rolls but rather unique and playful flavors. For instance, during Mardi Gras week, they had shrimp and cashew egg rolls. The short rib special was absolutely delicious—so tender it practically melts in your mouth. The cocktails were great as well. Our server was friendly, though not the most attentive during our visit. The bread pudding was very good; I’ve had better, but this one definitely ranks among the top.

During a busy lunch hour our service was very polite and I could say my waiter worked hard to ensure that all the tables he was responsible were satisfied. My friend and I shared a wonderful appetizer the egg rolls du Jour were a honey/Siracha chicken combo. They had a little more sauce, but as a whole amazing! Our lunches were right, my friend had the meat she really loved, and I had the 1/2 sandwich of the day (Roast beef and provolone with a kind of delicious sauce) and a house salad. The salad was full and green and had many fresh products. They also have quality ranch . Overall we were in and out in a little over an hour and it was very full and delicious at a really good price for the quality of food and service we received! I'm back! They had a chef's special of loaded fries with carne asada. It was one of the best appetizers I have eaten in my life. My husband's junction burger has inspired me to get it the next time we come to Des Moines. This place is amazing. We will be back every time we are in the area.
