Bird's Nest Chinese - West Devon

So sad how much The Birds Nest has gone downhill. We wanted a weekend treat and ordered a takeaway to be delivered. Food came, delivery fee paid and a tip only to discover several items were missing. We were told we don’t know when it will be delivered so we had to drive to Tavistock to collect as it was our children’s meals. A quick sorry from the teenage girl and that was it. Whilst I was there the other one cut herself on a metal container and ran it under the tap for second, shrugged and carried on serving. Hope it goes back to its previous standard!!

Delicious ! , visiting Tavistock we wanted to have a Chinese takeaway , unsure which one to pick as not being local we chose the Birds Nest ignoring the handful of bad reviews , and I’m glad we did the food was hot and plentiful . The Crispy chilli beef was probably the best we have ever tasted . We did have one item missing but this was rectified with a phone call and we popped back in the following day and was given a refund for that item . would suggest you check your order in collection Very satisfied

Not good. I have to say the quality of some of the food was appalling. The Chicken for use with the Satay sauce was probably the saltiest thing I've eaten since I last drank some seawater. I can only imagine they're storing chicken in brine during the off season to preserve it. The ribs were fine nothing all that special, same goes for the prawn toast and spring rolls. (About the same quality as Tesco pack you cook yourself). The Chicken balls were nice in themselves but the Sweet and Sour sauce seemed a wee bit runny and was heavy on the tomato. The Chow Mein was disgusting and was completely ruined in taste with a strong smelling cabbage upon opening the pack it was a smell far more similar to our compost bin than pork noodles. All in all it was a great disappointment.

The food was decent, a 7 out of 10, but the service was terrible. It felt like eating in a dentist's waiting room - no friendly waitstaff or customer service. We ordered drinks that never showed up. From now on, we'll stick to ordering takeout.

We used to eat here regularly but something has changed. The food was really disappointing and I’ll leave it at that. Did the chef have a bad day?
